The environment for freedom of religion or belief in China is restrictive, which includes the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. This Government stands firm on human rights, and we raise our concerns at the highest levels. The Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary, Chancellor and Energy Secretary all raised human rights recently with their counterparts (President Xi, Foreign Minister Wang, Vice Premier He and Vice Premier Ding respectively).
This Government champions freedom of religion or belief for all abroad. We work to uphold the right to freedom of religion or belief through our position at the UN, G7 and other multilateral fora. We continue to closely monitor the situation for Falun Gong practitioners and maintain a dialogue with NGOs and international partners on the issue.

That this House is deeply concerned by ongoing persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in the People’s Republic of China; notes the substantial evidence from independent tribunals and human rights bodies indicating that detainees have been subjected to forced organ harvesting; calls on the Government to support transparent, independent investigations into these abuses and to raise these concerns in all relevant diplomatic and multilateral forums; and reaffirms the UK’s commitment to protecting freedom of belief for all.

The Government champions freedom of religion or belief for all abroad and regularly condemns the Kremlin's dire domestic human rights record in international fora. On 31 July, the UK condemned the Russian authorities' repression of internal political opposition at the UN Security Council. On 4 August, the UK's Human Rights Ambassador reiterated our call for the Russian authorities to release all political prisoners. The Prime Minister, Chancellor and former Foreign Secretary all raised human rights recently with their Chinese counterparts. We continue to closely monitor the situation for Falun Gong practitioners and maintain a dialogue with non-governmental organisations and international partners on the issue.

The Government is committed to promoting and protecting the right to freedom of religion or belief, this includes protecting the rights of Falun Gong Practitioners.
We continually assess potential threats in the UK, and take protection of individuals’ rights, freedoms, and safety in the UK very seriously. Any attempt by any foreign state to intimidate, harass or harm individuals or communities in the UK will not be tolerated.
Where individuals have concerns for their safety, they should report incidents or suspicious activity to the Police via 101, a local police station, or 999 in emergencies.

The Government is committed to promoting and protecting the right to freedom of religion or belief, including protecting the rights of Falun Gong Practitioners and their performance group, Shen Yun.
We continually assess potential threats in the UK, and take protection of individuals' rights, freedoms, and safety in the UK very seriously. Any attempt by any foreign state to intimidate, harass or harm individuals or communities in the UK will not be tolerated.
We have a broad suite of powers to counter foreign interference, including those actions which amount to transnational repression. We will continue to use all the tools at our disposal to keep people safe.
On 4 March 2025, the Security Minister announced a new package of training which will allow frontline police officers and staff to increase their understanding of the threats that foreign powers present. This training will increase law enforcement's ability to detect criminal activity which may be state-directed, and strengthen public confidence in the UK's response.

The environment for Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) across China is restrictive, which includes the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. The British government works with international organisations and networks to promote and protect the freedom of religion or belief for all where it is threatened, including through the UN, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Council of Europe, and the International Religious Freedom or Belief Alliance. The Foreign Secretary set out his concerns about human rights violations in China during his introductory call with China's Foreign Minister on 5 December 2023.
