To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, what is the priority for the Government for negotiating a free trade agreement with Thailand.
The Government has not commenced any negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Thailand. My department keeps its approach to FTAs under active review to support growth, resilience and the UK’s strategic interests.
Thailand is an important economic partner and a significant market for UK goods and services. We continue to engage closely with Thailand through a range of cooperation mechanisms, including the UK-Thailand Enhanced Trade Partnership, while assessing where future agreements could deliver the greatest value for the UK.

To ask the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, what recent assessment he has made of the potential impact of free trade agreements on family businesses in Surrey.
We do not assess the direct effects of individual Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) on specific types of businesses within specific counties, nor do we monitor the way they are utilised in such granular detail.
However, we do publish assessments of the potential economic, sectoral, distributional and environmental impacts of our FTAs on GOV.UK. As these set out, FTAs have an important role to play in delivering economic growth in all sectors and all regions. Through FTAs, businesses can benefit from tariff reductions, improved market access, and enhanced protections in investment and digital trade.
The department is working hand-in-hand with UK businesses to ensure firms have the tools and knowledge they need to seize these opportunities.

The Government's new Africa Approach was the subject of extensive consultation with African countries, multilateral institutions and others. The UK-Ukraine Political, Free Trade and Strategic Partnership Agreement is the central pillar of the UK’s trading relationship with Ukraine. Under this Agreement, tariffs on all goods are temporarily removed until March 2029 (with the exception of poultry and eggs which are liberalised until 31 March 2026), with businesses in both countries benefiting from this arrangement. The UK-Ukraine Digital Trade Agreement supports businesses to trade more efficiently and cheaply, including through secure electronic transactions, e-signatures, and e-contracts. The UK-Ukraine Trade Committee oversee these agreements and discusses how to enhance further our bilateral trade and investment.

I associate myself with the Prime Minister’s earlier remarks, particularly about Myanmar and Thailand. I support the aid; despite the budget cuts, I hope we can be as generous as possible because of the humanitarian crisis there.
The Prime Minister has shown commendable leadership over Ukraine, with his plan for a military coalition of the willing against Putin. Will he now provide similar leadership with an economic coalition of the willing against Trump’s tariffs and for free trade, so we can avoid a global trade war and a global recession?

We have a good deal of trade—a balanced trade relationship—with the US, and I believe that our interests are best served by calmly trying to secure a deal that is in our national interest, while at the same time preparing and leaving all options on the table.
