That this House is astonished that the Minister of Public Transport, the Right honourable Member for Kettering, should reveal on 21st March, Official Report, column 99, that he and his civil servants thought that the adjournment debate for Friday 25th March on Menwith Hill Station was a matter for him, only subsequently to learn that Menwith Hill Station is a communications centre near Harrogate run by the National Security Agency of America to intercept United Kingdom telephone calls and hence the responsibility of the Ministry of Defence; and believes that this remarkable ignorance of both transport and current affairs reflects a Department of Transport devoted to road interests and restricting their knowledge of railways to ghost trains.
