There is excellence right across the country and this government is backing it: lifting living standards and putting more money in people’s pockets. Greater Manchester Combined Authority will receive £2.5bn through the Transport for City Regions Fund and the Greater Manchester Investment Zone is expected to deliver £1.1 bn in private sector investment and 32,000 jobs.

No such specific discussions have taken place regarding delays and cancellations to National Health Service mental health appointments in the Hazel Grove constituency.
On a national scale we are meeting the waiting time standards we have in place for NHS Talking Therapies and Early Intervention in Psychosis pathways. However, we recognise that many of the working-age adult population with mental health needs can face long waits to access mental health support.
This is why we are working to reform our mental health system to make sure patients get the care they need, when they need.
At the Spending Review 2025, we confirmed that we will deliver on our commitments to recruit an additional 8,500 mental health workers by the end of this Parliament and roll out mental health support teams to cover all schools in England by 2029/30.
Six pilot sites are trialling 24/7 neighbourhood mental health centres, providing open access to mental health care for patients, reducing long waits. Our improvements to the NHS App will mean people are able to access rapid online support when they need.

Data on Winter Fuel Payments made in winter 2024/25 is available on Stat Xplore. In Winter 2024/25, 1,855 Winter Fuel Payments were made in Hazel Grove constituency to households with someone receiving Pension Credit or certain other income-related benefits. This compares to 21,000 payments made in Hazel Grove constituency in winter 2023/24, when Winter Fuel Payments were made universally to those above State Pension age.
The Government has increased the level at which Winter Fuel Payments are means-tested in England and Wales from winter 2025/26 so that the vast majority of pensioners, around 9 million individuals, will benefit from them.
The Government has been clear that the Winter Fuel Payment should be means-tested on the basis of income. Winter Fuel Payments will thereby remain targeted by income, but with lower- and middle-income pensioners benefitting. For higher income pensioners, those with an annual income of more than £35,000, the payment will be recovered via the tax system.
Estimates for winter 2025/26 are not available at the Parliamentary Constituency level. Statistics covering the winter 2025/26 period will be published in September 2026.
That this House expresses deep concern over the crisis of NHS dentistry in Hazel Grove constituency; notes with alarm that a recent health survey of local residents found that 46.4 per cent were not registered with an NHS dentist, and 44 per cent had been forced to pay for private treatment because they could not access NHS care; further notes that around 10 per cent of residents surveyed reported that they were neither registered with an NHS dentist nor paying for private care, suggesting that they are going without dental treatment altogether; highlights that in Romiley the last NHS dentist closed more than two years ago, leaving large parts of the constituency without local access to NHS provision; believes this situation is unacceptable and risks worsening health inequalities, particularly during a cost-of-living crisis; calls on the Government to urgently reform the broken NHS dental contract, incentivise dentists to provide NHS services locally, and ensure flexible commissioning so that residents can access timely care; and urges Ministers to act further and faster to tackle the emergence of dental deserts so that every constituent can access an NHS dentist when they need one.

Ofwat assesses affordability for each water company through a five-yearly Price Review process, in which water companies must detail in their business plans how they will address affordability. Ofwat’s price controls for Price Review 2024 set out that the average customer bill will increase by 36%, before inflation, over the next five years.
We understand the financial pressures hardworking families are currently facing and we are pushing the sector to ensure support is available. We expect water companies to put robust support in place for vulnerable customers and keep current affordability schemes under review to ensure vulnerable customers are supported.
Bills must remain affordable, and customers cannot be expected to pay the price for years of underperformance in the past. Government expects industry to keep the current support schemes under review to ensure households across the country are supported.

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency’s (DVSA) main priority is upholding road safety standards while it works hard to reduce car practical driving test waiting times.
On the 23 April, the Secretary of State for Transport appeared before the Transport Select Committee and announced that DVSA will take further actions to reduce driving test waiting times across the country.

Hazel Grove is served by Bredbury, West Didsbury and Sale cluster of driving test centres. At Bredbury DTC one driving examiner (DE) has now returned from a long absence, this will help to increase the number of tests available at this centre.
From a recent recruitment campaign, one new DE has joined West Didsbury DTC. A further two new entrant DEs will be starting training this month, following successful completion, they will join Sale DTC.
Some customers from this area choose to travel to Macclesfield and Buxton DTCs, where since July, three new entrant DEs have started testing at these centres, with a further two due to start in October.

The Chancellor’s draught rate cut at Autumn Budget 2024 applied to approximately 60% of the alcoholic drinks sold in pubs. This took a penny of duty off a typical strength pint.
Draught beer and cider now pay 13.9% less in duty than their packaged equivalents – an increase of over 50% on the previous draught discount of 9.2%.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what steps his Department is taking to ensure that people affected by dementia in the Hazel Grove constituency can access guaranteed specialist care.
The provision of dementia health care services is the responsibility of local integrated care boards (ICBs). We would expect ICBs to commission services, which may include dementia specialist nurses, based on local population needs, taking account of National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines. Dementia care in the Hazel Grove constituency is delivered as part of the wider NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership.
Under the 10 Year Health Plan, those living with dementia will benefit from improved care planning and better services. We will deliver the first ever Modern Service Framework for frailty and dementia to deliver rapid and significant improvements in quality of care and productivity. This will be informed by phase one of the independent commission into adult social care, expected in 2026.
That this House recognises the importance of working towards a goal for all railway stations to have step-free access, ensuring that public transport is accessible for everyone; acknowledges the far too common occurrence, for example at Bredbury, where only one platform at a station is accessible, meaning that passengers can only utilise the station for one direction of their journey, and how this disproportionately impacts passengers who struggle with their mobility; welcomes the announcement earlier this year of funding for accessibility improvements at Bredbury station with completion planned in 2027; calls for clarity in the present situation regarding funding that has been granted for Romiley station; and urges the Government to work with Transport for Greater Manchester and Stockport Council to ensure that funding is also granted for much needed accessibility improvements at Woodley and Middlewood stations.

This Government is investing in transport improvements across our city regions, including Greater Manchester which is receiving over £1 billion through its City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement. In line with the Government’s commitment to devolution, decisions on where to invest this funding, including whether to conduct feasibility studies for extending Metrolink and tram-train services to towns and villages in the Hazel Grove constituency, rest with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, in partnership with its constituent local authorities.
