The 10-Year Health Plan, published in July 2025, is delivering our Health Mission. Ministers and officials are involved in a range of meetings to deliver the 10-Year Health Plan. Oversight is maintained by the Departmental Board.

We continue to keep our delivery mechanisms for the 10-Year Health Plan under review, including the use of the Mission Board.

Mission Boards ceased to be Cabinet Office committees at the end of last year. Since then, my ministerial colleagues and I have continued to engage stakeholders through a variety of fora to take forward the 10-Year Health Plan, through which we are delivering our Health Mission. Mission Boards are Cabinet Committees. It is a long-established precedent that information about the proceedings of the Cabinet, or of any committee of the Cabinet, is not normally shared publicly, and this includes mission boards.

The Health Mission, which the Department leads, is focused on shifting towards a more preventative approach to healthcare.

We have established a cross-Government Health Mission Delivery Board to take forward work on the health mission. The core membership of the board is made up of key ministers including my Rt. Hon. Friends, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care as Chair and the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster as the Deputy Chair. Other attendees, including external partners, are invited according to the agenda.

Outside of the Mission Board, the Department is engaging with wider partners from across civil society, business and local government on the health mission, including through our engagement on the 10-Year Health Plan.

Under our Health Mission, the Government is committed to prioritising preventative public health measures to support people to live longer, healthier lives. For too long there has been an unwillingness to lead on issues like smoking, alcohol harm, and obesity. It is unacceptable that alcohol deaths are now at record high levels. The Department will continue to work across Government to understand how we can best reduce alcohol-related harms.

Supporting people to stay healthier for longer is at the heart of this government’s Health Mission. We face a childhood obesity crisis and this government will take action to tackle it head on, easing the strain on the National Health Service and creating the healthiest generation of children ever.

The Health Mission has an overall objective to reduce the amount of time spent in ill-health, tackle health inequalities and drive economic growth. This brings together all government departments with an influence over the social determinants of health, to drive forward action in these areas.

We are committed to implementing the Advertising Regulations of less healthy food to children, empowering councils to block the development of new fast-food shops outside schools and banning the sale of high-caffeine energy drinks to children under 16 years old.
