To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment he has made of the progress of works at Kettering General Hospital as part of the New Hospitals Programme.
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment he has made of the progress of works at Kettering General Hospital as part of the New Hospitals Programme.
The New Hospital Programme is focused on delivering the Plan for Implementation, published in January 2025, and is prioritising delivery of Wave 1 schemes but ensuring that Wave 2 schemes are being supported as appropriate. For Kettering, this includes essential enabling works such as a new Energy Centre and site upgrades, to ensure readiness to proceed either to the timetable in the Plan for Implementation, with main construction scheduled to start between 2032 to 2034, or sooner if the opportunity arises.
We do not have plans at present to change the delivery schedule, however, as noted in the Plan for Implementation, delivery expectations may be subject to change and the programme reserves the right to adjust the delivery plan as schemes develop in the future.

Kettering general hospital is where I was born and cared for as a premature baby, but after 14 years of the Conservatives underfunding the NHS, that same maternity ward is partially closed because of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete. After giving birth, mothers are transported outside, through the car park, to receive post-natal care. Will the Prime Minister visit Kettering general to discuss how we can support services, like the maternity ward, while we await our rebuild?

There is deep anger about the delay to the work because of the Conservative’s failure to have a plan, but while we implement our affordable and deliverable plan to build a new hospital, I can reassure her that the RAAC identified at Kettering general is being mitigated and replaced through the national RAAC programme.
My hon. Friend has been a determined champion of Kettering general hospital, and rightly so. Friend the Prime Minister please do all he can to ensure that the Department of Health gets spades in the ground on time next spring, so that we can get the construction of our redeveloped, much loved local hospital fully under way?
