To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of how the Old Trafford Regeneration Project will impact the surrounding area, and how they intend to support the project.
There is significant economic and growth potential around Old Trafford. The development has the potential to make a strong contribution to Greater Manchester’s economy as well as the Government’s growth mission. Making the most of this potential will require co-ordinated and long-term leadership by the Mayor and Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), working in partnership with Government and private sector interests. GMCA will receive an integrated funding settlement worth over £600m per annum, starting from 2025-26, and empowering them to drive local growth and invest in local priorities.

There is no direct financial support committed for the redevelopment of Old Trafford football ground. Greater Manchester Combined Authority will receive around £630 million per annum through their integrated settlement from the start of the 2025-26 financial year.
This will give the Mayor and Combined Authority much greater freedom and funding flexibility to drive forward the local economy and deliver growth. This may include support for priority regeneration schemes such as the redevelopment of Old Trafford stadium.

That this House notes with disdain that the second richest football club in the world, Manchester United, and a number of other financially secure organisations have been awarded lottery grants by Sport England, whilst a number of other charities and good causes which rely on lottery funding have been turned down; and asks the Secretary of State to look again at the rules pertaining to lottery grants and to ensure that the money that is provided is concentrated on those charities and good causes which rely on the National Lottery for funding and is not diverted to organisations which can easily fund their activities from within their own resources, as was intended when the National Lottery was set up in 1994.
