DCMS does not provide any discretionary capital funding for local heritage projects, however the National Lottery Heritage Fund has capital funding streams available.
We are proud to already boast a large number of existing UK World Heritage Sites and are committed to supporting UNESCO’s ambition for a more globally balanced, representative World Heritage List. The UK Government does not currently have any plans to consider additional sites for nomination to UNESCO, beyond those already included on the UK’s Tentative List.
That this House congratulates Mount Stewart Garden for their European Garden Award for creating exemplary climate change mitigation measures; notes that this fantastic award is given by the European Garden Heritage Network, which represents 210 parks across 21 countries; highlights that warmer summers, wetter winters and rising sea levels are altering the gardens which are set on the shore of Strangford Lough, and Mount Stewart are leading the way in making detailed plans, including maintaining the historic sea plantation; underlines the work of the garden team in ensuring that these extraordinary gardens have a future and can keep enriching the lives of everyone who visits; further notes how these gardens attract thousands of tourists every year; and further congratulates the whole team for their exceptional work to make this possible.

That this House celebrates with the National Trust and the Londonderry Family the latest award to Mount Stewart Gardens having being voted one of the top ten gardens in the world with UNESCO World Cultural Heritage, noting the extraordinary scope of its plant collections and the originality of its features, which gives it world class status; encourages more people to travel to Northern Ireland in particular Strangford, to enjoy the unmatched natural beauty and the world class tourism facilities; and congratulates all those who wore so hard to keep Mount Stewart one of the most beautiful gardens in the world.
