As a Government department, the Department of Health and Social Care engages constructively and works collaboratively with the devolved administrations on areas of shared interest, including information sharing, coordination, and issues that have United Kingdom wide or cross-border implications.
The NHS England Outcomes and Registries Programme invites relevant health professionals from the devolved nations to participate in monthly clinical steering groups across several clinical registries to foster collaboration and alignment of working practices. Wales and Northern Ireland have participated fully in the Pelvic Organ Prolapse and Stress Urinary Incontinence Clinical Steering Group. Scottish representatives last participated in November 2024, though they continue to be sent minutes of the progress of the NHS England-led Group.
The registry is due to be launched across 50% of English providers in February, with a second wave covering the remaining English providers planned for summer 2026.

Indeed, I have a constituent who lives in Foulden who has been told that they will need to wait over three years to have their cataracts seen to in Scotland. Meanwhile, their neighbours, who are registered with a GP in England, are being treated by NHS England within six months. My constituent simply does not understand that discrepancy. The SNP Government in Edinburgh should be doing much more to drive down NHS waiting lists and engage with colleagues in Westminster to ensure that all people across these islands get the best possible NHS services.

The NHS pension scheme protects pensions in payment by increasing them by CPI and revalues accrued career average pension benefits by CPI+1.5% each year.
The Government is committed to ensuring that hard-working NHS staff do not find themselves reducing their work commitments due to the interaction between their pay, their pension, and the relevant tax regime. On 22 September, the Government announced it will change elements of the NHS Pension Scheme to help retain doctors, nurses and other senior NHS staff, to increase capacity. These changes include:
- Changing pension rules regarding inflation
- Encouraging NHS Trusts to explore local solutions for senior clinicians affected by pension tax charges, such as pension recycling
- Implementing permanent retirement flexibilities and extend existing temporary measures to allow our most experienced staff to return to service or stay in service longer.
It should be noted that NHS workforce planning in Scotland is the responsibility of the Scottish Government.

Since the start of the pandemic, DWP has rigorously followed advice from the respective governments in the devolved nations – allowing people to work safely from the office, or at home. We are committed to continuing this approach. Whilst there is regular engagement with the Scottish Government, the Secretary of State has not held specific discussions, including with NHS Scotland, on returning colleagues to the workplace in DWP as this is being undertaken in strict accordance with Scottish Government guidance.

The UK Government continues to engage with the Scottish Government, who have responsibility for NHS Scotland.
The UK Government continues to work at pace to ensure that all necessary preparations are in place, including working directly with suppliers and pharmaceutical companies to ensure there is a continued supply of medicines, medical devices and clinical consumables when the UK leaves the European Union.
Additional freight capacity is being secured, which will support existing plans such as building buffer stocks of medicines and medical products, procuring additional warehouse capacity and supporting companies preparing for new customs and border requirements.
