The Northern Lighthouse Board has spent £31,221.99 (gross) on communications support services since 4 July 2024.
This relates to the provision of specialist support by Charlotte Street Partners Ltd to assist the organisation’s Communications Officer, including deputising in their absence to respond to media enquiries. The services also include maintaining availability to support business continuity exercises in the event of a serious incident and delivering media training to support effective communication with the public in the event of an incident.

The Northern Lighthouse Board’s programmes to support its Net Zero target include measures to improve energy efficiency and increase the use of renewable power across its lighthouse estate and aids to navigation, alongside projects to reduce emissions from its vessels and operational activity. There is no cost to the public purse. These are funded through the General Lighthouse Fund, financed through light dues paid by ships calling at UK and Irish ports.

The National Shipbuilding Office (NSO) had regular engagement with the Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB) and the Department for Transport (DfT) before the contract for the new vessel was awarded to identify opportunities for the programme to support the National Shipbuilding Strategy. Astilleros Gondán S.A. was awarded the contract following an open, fair and transparent competitive tender process. Two UK shipyards were included in the shortlist but both yards elected not to submit a tender.
The NSO continues to work with both the NLB and DfT to maximise the opportunities that the contract has created for the UK supply chain.

The Department has not allocated any budget for work formerly done by the Railway Heritage Committee. The Committee's powers were transferred to the Board of Trustees of the Science Museum on 1 April 2013 which is overseen by the Department for Culture Media and Sport.
Budgets for 2015/16 are subject to the 2013 Spending Round which is currently underway.

The budgets of the General Lighthouse Authorities are agreed annually, and are funded from the General Lighthouse Fund. Therefore, resources have not as yet been allocated to Trinity House or the Northern Lighthouse Board for 2014-15 or 2015-16.
The General Lighthouse Authorities' corporate plans use a standard set of expenditure groupings consistent with General Lighthouse Fund requirements. A breakdown between headquarters and other office costs is not readily available, however office accommodation forms part of the total for finance, support and headquarters, accounting subheading.
Trinity House has a budget of £5,112,000 for finance, support and headquarters in 2013-14, and the Northern Lighthouse Board £3,123,000.

The Public Bodies (Abolition of the Railway Heritage Committee) Order 2013 abolished the Railway Heritage Committee on 1 April 2013 and transferred its powers to the Board of Trustees of the Science Museum which is overseen by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The Department has not allocated a budget in any of these years for the work formerly done by the Railway Heritage Committee.
Budgets for 2014-15 are indicative.
