I refer the Hon Member to PQ 111722. As set out in my previous answer, the Government has previously committed to setting out the final costs of the total legal support in relation to the Privileges Committee in due course after the conclusion of this matter.

The Cabinet Office awarded a legal services contract to Peters and Peters after following the established process for such a contract. As the Honourable Member knows, by convention, whether the Law Officers have been asked to provide advice, and the contents of any such advice, is not disclosed outside of Government.

Notwithstanding that in the exceptional circumstances the Government determined it was in the public interest for Lord Pannick’s legal opinion to be published, it remains the case that the Government does not comment on legal advice that may or may not have been sought or received. This is in line with the long-standing policy under successive administrations.
