The Government's first priority is our national security, and we will use all the tools at our disposal to protect the UK, and its people, from state threats. Where there is clear evidence that Iranian-linked or aligned organisations are undertaking unacceptable activity, the Government will respond accordingly.
The UK has a comprehensive set of measures to counter threats posed by the Iranian regime. The UK has sanctioned over 550 Iran-linked individuals and entities, including the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, which has been sanctioned in its entirety. We have placed the entire Iranian State, including its intelligence agencies – the IRGC and MOIS – on the enhanced tier of the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme (FIRS). Any organisation in the UK that fails to declare a registrable arrangement with the Iranian state will be committing a criminal offence punishable by a substantial fine or up to five years in prison.
Furthermore, we engage directly with communities who may be at heightened risk, including members of the Jewish community and the Iranian diaspora. The National Protective Security Authority and Counter Terrorism Policing continue to provide protective security advice and support to individuals and organisations threatened by states.
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whether people who act as (a) anchors, (b) presenters and (c) regular contributors for Press TV are required to register under the enhanced tier of the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme.

It is longstanding policy that the Government does not comment on individual cases.
Iranian state-owned organisations do not automatically have to register with FIRS. Individuals or entities will only need to register under FIRS if they are carrying out activities in the UK at the direction of the Iranian state.
The Government will be publishing an annual report setting out, among other things, the number of registrations, number of information notices issued, the number of persons charged with an offence and the number of persons convicted of an offence. The first report will be published as soon as practicable after 30 June 2026.

I thank my hon. Friend for raising this very important matter. It should be a concern to all Members of the House that these dangerous and, in many cases, antisemitic conspiracy theories can still be promoted and do gain traction. As my hon. Friend will know, I take this matter...

We assess that Press TV is part of state-controlled Iranian media, and as such it is not independent. We cannot currently assess Press TV’s budget or the level of investment it receives from the Iranian state. Press TV’s license to broadcast in the UK was revoked by Ofcom in 2012.

We do not hold this information. Ofcom, as the UK’s audiovisual regulator, currently licenses BBC World News and Russia Today for the purposes of AVMSD but it does not collect this type of information either. According to BBC’s own audience measurement data, World News is available in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide and around 454 million households.
To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they will ask Ofcom to provide their reasoning for revoking the licence of the Press TV English service.
