May I associate myself with the Prime Minister’s comments about 9/11, and about our brave police officer who lost his life?
My home town of Kilmarnock was once the industrial powerhouse of Ayrshire, but after decades of decline and deindustrialisation, it has never fully recovered. I welcome the Prime Minister’s determination to revive our high streets and his focus on doing so, and I extend a warm invitation to him to visit the town at any time.
Hope has been rekindled in Kilmarnock thanks to the Government’s £20 million Pride in Place investment. We are seeing the creation of the first Kilmarnock town centre masterplan for over 50 years, led by the community, setting an achievable vision for a successful future, and we want to build on that momentum. It does my heart good to hear my hon. Friend talk about rising hope in Kilmarnock and the masterplan for the town, backed by the Government with the Pride in Place funding—and yes, I can assure her that No. 10 North is as much at the service of her constituency as it is at the service of any constituency in the House. We will turn what is happening in Kilmarnock into real momentum for the town.

To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, what steps she is taking to ensure improved environmental and health outcomes are a core part of investments such as Pride in Place.
Through the Government's Pride in Place Programme, up to £5.8 billion is being invested over ten years in 284 neighbourhoods experiencing the highest levels of deprivation. The programme will help revitalise local areas and fight deprivation through a focus on three strategic objectives: building thriving places; strengthening communities; and empowering people to take back control.
Each selected area will receive up to £20 million flexible funding and support over ten years. In each area, a Neighbourhood Board will work with the local community to decide how this funding is spent, which could include investment in projects to improve environmental and health outcomes, where these reflect local priorities.
To make sure Neighbourhood Boards have maximum spend flexibility and are not required to regularly seek approval from central government, MHCLG has published an indicative list of the types of projects or initiatives that will benefit communities in a long-term and sustainable way, available on GOV.UK here.

This Government wants to ensure that communities have the tools they need to protect local assets. That is why we are introducing a new Community Right to Buy power through the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Act 2026. Further details of how we will support communities to make use of this power, including funding, will be set out in due course.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has published guidance on GOV.UK here to support delivery of the Pride in Place Programme. The Government has set up a designated Communities Delivery Unit, sitting within MHCLG, which provides direct ongoing support to local authorities, MPs and Neighbourhood Boards. The Government is also establishing a Network for Neighbourhoods across the UK, which will help areas to build connections and share learning, and give Neighbourhood Boards access to expertise and support.

That this House celebrates the award of £40,000 from the Pride in Place Impact Fund to the Ramblers Association for its Pride in the Drumchapel Way project; recognises that the Drumchapel Way is a roughly 4.5-mile circular woodland and countryside route in Glasgow West constituency, passing through Garscadden Woods and other green spaces and nature reserves, near Castle Hill, the site of a Roman fort, and offering views across Glasgow and opportunities to see wildlife including deer; notes that the route forms part of the Drumchapel Park Run, providing runners with a greener, more natural setting; welcomes the work of the Ramblers Association and local Path Checker volunteers in monitoring the route, tackling litter and fly-tipping, identifying maintenance issues and proposing improvements; further recognises that the project will support volunteers to improve way-marking, address maintenance concerns and make the route more accessible, attractive and enjoyable; further notes that the £40,000 award is part of Glasgow City Council’s £1.5 million city-wide capital grants programme, funded through the UK Government’s £150 million Pride in Place Impact Fund and targeted at communities most in need; and congratulates the Ramblers Association, local volunteers and Drumchapel residents on securing this funding and encourages residents and visitors to enjoy this valuable local green space.

What steps he is taking with Cabinet colleagues to support regeneration in Scotland through the Pride in Place programme.
In my constituency, the Pride in Place programme will be stewarded by Jim Hope BEM. Jim has decades of experience in community engagement, and has been involved in a range of projects that have brought local people together. Does the Minister agree that the key strength of the Pride in Place programme is not only that it is investing £20 million in long-forgotten places, like Springburn, Barmulloch and Balornock, but that it is trusting local leaders like Jim to shape the future of their areas, putting power directly into the hands of those who know their communities best?

I completely agree with my hon. Friend, and I am absolutely delighted that somebody of Jim Hope’s stature has been appointed to lead Pride in Place investment in north-east Glasgow. It is a great example of those who know their communities best being empowered to lead, and I will follow the progress made in north-east Glasgow with very keen interest.
