Of the two Chinook H-47 currently deployed to cover the aerial firefighting season in Cyprus, one is earmarked for retirement as part of the planned decommissioning of the oldest 14 aircraft in the Chinook fleet.
There is no impact on Chinook fleet operational outputs as a result of the forward deployment of two Chinook H-47 to Cyprus.

The Ministry of Defence continues to routinely assess and reassess capabilities required by deployed UK forces. In support of Commander British Forces Cyprus, two Royal Air Force CH47 Chinook helicopters are currently forward deployed to provide an aerial firefighting capability through the wildfire season and are able to provide a range of supporting functions. Mitigations against jungle training in Brunei are in place however it is the long-standing policy of the UK Government not to comment on UK SF activity. The six Airbus H145 HC2 Jupiter helicopters will deploy and commence operational activity in Brunei and Cyprus in 2026.

The Jungle Warfare Division delivers two Jungle Warfare Instructors Courses per year and two Operational Tracking Instructor Courses per year in Brunei for military training. Since 5 July 2024, the Jungle Warfare Division has delivered four courses.
Alongside units training in Brunei, the Jungle Training Courses delivered by the Jungle Warfare Division often involve cohorts of service personnel drawn from multiple units across Defence, sometimes in small numbers. It is therefore not possible to list all the units represented as this information isn’t held centrally.

We continue to liaise closely with Ukraine to deliver the capabilities they require to resist Russian aggression. This includes all relevant capabilities on Land, Sea and in the Air.

It is not possible to provide comparable figures for different aircraft over a month. Operating costs associated with individual platforms are dependent on several variables, including the operational outputs delivered in any given month which would affect the flying hours and therefore cost to operate.
I can however confirm that the overall cost of operating a Chinook H47 is less than the cost of operating a Puma HC2.

The Jungle Warfare Skills Meet (JWSM) will not occur in 2025 but will run again in 2026 on a biennial cadence, in line with the intention of The Royal Brunei Land Force.

The MOD takes a rigorous approach in assessing the risk of any capability transitions. The Department is exploring options to fulfil some short-term capability transitions in the SBAs before the H-145 platform enters services from 2026. Defence’s Strategic Objectives will continue to be fulfilled.

The primary role of the Puma aircraft in Brunei is to provide search and rescue cover in support of operational training. Defence has taken measures to ensure continued output of operational training in the interim period before Puma's replacement, H145, enters service from 2026.
