Circa 95% of Service Family Accommodation (SFA) supporting RAF Cosford is at or above Decent Homes Standard.
Improving our Service accommodation across the UK and providing good quality homes that are safe and well maintained is a top priority for the Department. This Government is committed to setting new minimum standards for military housing, with the aim of improving the standard of SFA across the estate.
Circa £440 million is currently forecast to be spent on maintaining and improving SFA across the Defence Estate within financial year 2024-25.

As at 1 January 2024, there were 1,590 UK Armed Forces Service personnel stationed at RAF Cosford.
Please note, UK Forces Service Personnel comprises UK Regular Forces, Gurkhas, Military Provost Guard Service (MPGS), Locally Engaged Personnel, Volunteer Reserve, Serving Regular Reserve, Sponsored Reserve, and Full-Time Reserve Service (FTRS) of unknown origin. University Air Squadron Officer Cadets are excluded. The figure includes trained and untrained personnel.
The figure includes Reserve personnel and is therefore an estimate because the stationed location data for Reserves has not been fully verified.
The figure has been rounded to the nearest 10. However, numbers ending in "5" have been rounded to the nearest 20 to prevent systematic bias.
Data has been provided as at 1 January 2024 to align with published Quarterly Service Personnel Statistics.

Engineers have attended the 10 homes with expired Gas Safety Certificates at least once, with the majority attended more than once, however, the contractor has been unable to gain access or confirm an appointment with all the families. It remains a top priority to gain access to these homes.
Appointments to complete the EICRs for the 156 occupied SFA at these sites have been made and should be carried out by the end of August 2023. A number of factors have led to the EICR backlog accumulating, for example, supply chain resource problems, and legislation has reduced the currency of existing electrical safety certificates from 10 years to five, increasing the frequency of the checks.
The safety of our personnel and their families is our highest priority. It is unacceptable for any family to be living in a home without the necessary checks.

The Ministry of Defence continues to develop its plans for expansion at RAF Cosford, which remains a core site for Defence. Final decisions are still to be taken, but we will confirm our plans in due course.

A self-funded event, the successful 2018 Cosford Air Show attracted a capacity crowd of approximately 60,000 visitors. It raised around £100,000 for the RAF100 Appeal and local charities. Arrangements for the 2019 Air Show have commenced, which will again be self-funding, with the aim of benefiting charitable causes. The planned date for the show will be 9 June 2019.

However, the MOD is sensitive to the potential impact of the move and will engage with the local authorities for both MOD St Athan and RAF Cosford once plans are sufficiently mature.
