RAF Henlow has been identified as having a Housing Unit potential for up-to 2,000 houses. The number of houses built on the site once sold is a matter for the future purchaser and the local Planning Authority.

RAF Henlow has been identified for disposal in accordance with the Department's standard procedures as mandated by the Treasury but has not yet been sold.
The future of the site is subject to on-going detailed assessment work.
The Department is aware of a proposal to develop the site as a science innovation and technology park, but no formal discussions on this topic have taken place or offers made.

Military personnel currently based at RAF Henlow will be relocated with their unit, the details of this relocation will be made clear later this year.
Civilian staff will be expected to honour the mobility obligations if their post is being relocated. Where an individual's post is being relocated outside the scope of their personal mobility obligation they will be managed in accordance with normal Departmental policy and processes.
Trade Unions have been consulted and detailed discussions regarding civilian staff will take place well in advance of any closure.

The running costs of individual units are not collated at a single point. For example, infrastructure costs (including utilities) are managed through Regional Prime Contracts which do not split out individual units. Similarly, equipment costs can also not be split out. For this reason, the running costs of the Defence Cultural Support Unit cannot be provided.

The Defence Cultural Specialist Unit is tasked to provide cultural and human terrain specialist force elements, in order to deliver the cultural support for army and defence operations, and wider military tasks. They do this by sending individual personnel to perform specialised tasks in support of units and headquarters in the UK and on operations overseas.
The unit is manned by personnel from all three services and has a headquarters element plus a pool of deployable personnel. Personnel are typically posted into the unit for between two and three years and the strength of the unit since 2010 is as follows:

All Service Family Accommodation and Single Living Accommodation at RAF Henlow are of a good standard and there are no plans for any major improvement works.
