To ask the Secretary of State for Education, how many children in Rother Valley constituency (a) have EHCP plans and (b) are receiving specialist education for special educational needs; and how many of those have not been attending school in each of the last 5 years.
To ask the Secretary of State for Education, how many children in Rother Valley constituency (a) have EHCP plans and (b) are receiving specialist education for special educational needs; and how many of those have not been attending school in each of the last 5 years.
The special educational needs (SEN) publication publishes data on pupils in schools in England with Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans which can be accessed at the following link: https://explore-education-statistics.service.gov.uk/find-statistics/special-educational-needs-in-england. The data file titled “School level underlying data 2024 (csv, 10 Mb)” under the section “Additional supporting files” includes the figures at school level, including the school type and parliamentary constituency. As these figures are taken from the January 2024 school census, the parliamentary constituencies are based on pre-election boundaries. Where statistics were published prior to the changes in parliamentary constituency boundaries, they will be updated to reflect the new boundaries in the next publication of statistics. This is expected to be in June 2025 for statistics on schools and pupils, including SEN. A table showing the number of SEN support and EHC plans is shown below:

The notorious crossroads between Ulley Lane and Treeton Lane, just outside Aughton in my constituency, is just one of several major road safety and highway issues that have been ignored for decades by Labour-controlled Rotherham Council. I will be presenting a petition to this place telling the council to end this chaotic mismanagement, but may I also ask for the Prime Minister’s support in urging both the Labour council and the Labour Mayor to listen to residents and get the junction sorted—to stop the huge tailbacks, save lives, get Rother Valley moving, and end this war against cars in my constituency?

Because of the decision that we made on HS2, communities, towns and cities across the north and the midlands will receive billions of pounds for transport projects that will make a difference to him and his constituents far quicker than anything else that was planned.

This government is committed to ensuring that the education and skills system is truly responsive to local needs. That is why at the most recent Spending Review, the government announced the biggest long-term settlement for post-16 education in England since 2015, rising to £3.8bn by 2024-25 over this Parliament. This included the first increase to apprenticeships funding since 2019-2020 – it will rise from £2.5bn in 2021-22 to £2.7bn in 2024-25, investment in Skills Bootcamps to retrain adults, and funding for thousands of T Levels students. This funding will impact areas like the Rother Valley in the short, medium and long term.
The government has built on this commitment by delivering a range of measures in places like the Rother Valley, including bringing employers, providers, and stakeholders in a local area together to drive short, medium and long term change through Local Skills Improvement Plans (LSIP).

Manufacturing plays an important role in the Rother Valley making up ~15% of jobs compared with ~10% for the UK as a whole, according to the ONS Business Registers and Employment Survey.
The Government recently published its Advanced Manufacturing Plan aiming to make the UK the best place in the world to start and scale up a manufacturing business – backed by £4.5 billion of funding and business environment measures.
The Plan expands our Made Smarter Adoption Programme – currently available in Rother Valley – supporting manufacturing SMEs to grow through digital technologies. Over 390 companies have already received the programme’s support in the Yorkshire and the Humber region.
