That this House expresses strong concern at Bahrain’s ongoing sponsorship of the Royal Windsor Horse Show 2023, to which the King of Bahrain has been a regular visitor since 2012, despite the Kingdom's appalling human rights record under his rule; notes the ongoing detention of hundreds of political prisoners, with 26 individuals at imminent risk of execution, many of whom allege torture, including Mohammed Ramadhan and Husain Moosa; further notes leading political activists who continue to face systematic medical negligence, including Hasan Mushaima, Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja, Abdulwahab Husain and Sheikh Abduljalil Al-Muqdad; decries the ongoing situation regarding Dr Abduljalil Al Singace, who has remained on a hunger strike without solid food since July 2021 and the failure of King Hamad to resolve the situation; notes that previous protests met with repressive measures of retaliation including the 2016 arrest of opposition politicians; condemns reprisals and harassment against the family members of those choosing to protest against King Hamad’s repressive rule and presence in the UK; opposes the invitation of King Hamad to the Royal Windsor Horse Show and Bahrain’s sponsorship of the event; calls for the sponsorship to be ended and the invitation rescinded; further calls on the Royal Windsor Horse Show to uphold its own human rights policy adopted in 2021 and prevent the show from being used to sportswash the reputation of the Bahraini regime.

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, whether the Government will provide funding to churches and community groups in Northern Ireland to help them celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III; and whether any royal visits are planned to Northern Ireland during the Coronation celebrations.
To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, whether the Government will provide funding to churches and community groups in Northern Ireland to help them celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III; and whether any royal visits are planned to Northern Ireland during the Coronation celebrations.
Northern Ireland Office officials are working closely with officials from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport in order to provide funding to Local Authorities for local screenings of the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III at locations across Northern Ireland.
There is no additional central Government funding available specifically for other organisations since every effort is being made to ensure that any activities and programmes for the Coronation do not impose an unnecessary burden on the taxpayer. It should be noted Lottery distributors and Local Authorities have made funds available for community events and many communities will fund their own activities, as they have done to mark other significant milestones in our shared history.

The British Government provides training, workshops and seminars on Freedom of Religion or Belief in Pakistan, including to representatives of minority groups. These aim to increase awareness of rights and constitutional safeguards, and to strengthen connections between minority communities and local media. The British Government continues to support civil society and non-governmental organisations lobbying the Government of Pakistan to honour its international commitments. Department for International Development will work with local civil society organisations to promote respect, tolerance and inclusion of minorities and marginalised groups through its AAWAZ II programme.
While in Pakistan, Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge discussed interfaith harmony with faith leaders from across Pakistan’s various religious communities, including Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Shia and Sunni. Discussions focused on the challenges and opportunities present in promoting interfaith relations in Pakistan, as well as how faith representatives can work together to build acceptance and tolerance in Pakistani society. They also spent time with members of the Kalash community in the Bumburet Valley of Chitral.

All meetings and visits in the programme of HRH The Duke of Cambridge were at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and in line with the Government’s positions in support of a negotiated two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Since 1967, the UK has regarded Israel as in occupation of East Jerusalem. We believe that the status of Jerusalem should be determined as part of a negotiated settlement between the Israelis and Palestinians. It must ensure Jerusalem is a shared capital of the Israeli and Palestinian states, with access and religious rights of both peoples respected.
