To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how many hospital admissions there were for dental treatment for (a) children (b) adults at York Teaching Hospital in each of the last 5 years.
The following table shows the number of Finished Admission Episodes (FAEs) where the main operative procedure was a dental procedure, by patient age group in each year from 2021/22 to 2025/26 in the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust:
Year | Number of children (zero to 17 years old) admissions | Number of adult (18 years old and over) admissions |
2021/22 | 155 | 385 |
2022/23 | 135 | 405 |
2023/24 | 200 | 510 |
2024/25 | 200 | 445 |
2025/26 | 165 | 500 |
Note: data for 2025/26 is provisional.
An FAE is the first period of admitted patient care under one consultant within one healthcare provider. FAEs are typically counted against the year or month in which the admission episode finishes, which is the approach we have used here. Admissions do not represent the number of patients, as a person may have more than one admission within the period.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment he has made of the potential impact of waiting times at York Hospital on patients in January (a) 2025 and (b) 2026.
We know that patients have been let down for too long, with their health deteriorating, while they wait for the care they need.
Reducing waiting lists is a key part of the Government’s Health Mission, and we are putting patients first by ensuring that they are seen on time and that they have the best possible experience of care across the country, including at York Hospital.
As set out in the Plan for Change, we are committed to returning by March 2029 to the National Health Service constitutional standard that 92% of patients wait no longer than 18 weeks from referral to consultant-led treatment, with an interim target of 65% by March 2026.
The Department does not hold waiting list data for January 2026 and at a hospital level. The latest waiting list data for the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as of November 2025, shows that 55.7% of waits are below 18 weeks, a 0.2 percentage point improvement from the previous year.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if he will make an assessment of the impact of withdrawing the experimental treatment for postural tachycardia syndrome trialled at York Hospital on patients with that condition.
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if he will make an assessment of the impact of withdrawing the experimental treatment for postural tachycardia syndrome trialled at York Hospital on patients with that condition.
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has undertaken a comprehensive review of the evidence for saline fluid infusions for the treatment of patients with symptoms of postural tachycardia syndrome. The review found that there is not enough published evidence that this treatment provides sufficient benefit for patients to continue long-term intravenous treatment. The trust has therefore taken a decision to no longer provide this treatment, which is consistent with position of other National Health Service hospital providers.
No national assessment of the trust’s decision has been made by NHS England.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has published guidance on myalgic encephalomyelitis or chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and recommends being aware that people with these conditions may experience orthostatic intolerance, including postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. It does not make any recommendations on management or treatment; however, it does recommend that people with ME/CFS should maintain fluid intake as part of healthy diet.

The assessment of services such as Nimbuscare is a matter for the NHS directly. NHS England advise that a national assessment of the service has not been carried out.

On 18 October 2022, NHS England wrote to systems on the expansion of winter resilience plans. Systems have been asked to consider establishing Acute Respiratory Infection hubs to manage increased acute respiratory infection (ARI) in the community. Guidance has been issued to support local systems to use existing infrastructure to design ARI hub models to manage demand and provide additional capacity. The hubs will ensure timely access for assessment and treatment and prevent avoidable hospital admissions and attendances.

These include staff working in hospital trusts and clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), but not staff working in primary care, local authorities or other providers.
