Further to the answer provided on 29 October 2025 to Question 83844, we remain concerned by reports of violence and discrimination affecting Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan, and we regularly raise the rights and safety of religious minorities with the Government of Pakistan at senior levels. During my visit to Pakistan in June 2026, I met with Law and Human Rights Minister Tarar to discuss a broad range of human rights issues and heard from a number of civil society actors about the biggest challenges in Pakistan's human rights landscape.

My community has been left in deep shock and concern following allegations of serious sexual offences, forced marriage and modern slavery against members of the Ahmadi religion of peace and light. Will the Prime Minister join me in thanking Cheshire constabulary, Cheshire East Council and wider agencies for their response to these concerning events? Will he also commit himself to ensuring that we receive the necessary resources to deliver justice when crimes have been committed and to reassure the wider community that this Government are on their side?

We have also recruited 3,000 more neighbourhood police officers while bringing forward wide-ranging reforms to ensure that everyone has access to swift and equal justice.

The UK is concerned by the treatment of Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan, including those detained for the peaceful exercise of their beliefs. We condemn the persecution of the Ahmadi community and continue to monitor the situation closely, including reports of discrimination, misuse of blasphemy laws and restrictions on freedom of expression. We regularly raise our concerns with the Government of Pakistan and urge it to uphold its international human rights obligations, including the rights of all religious minorities. We will continue to press for the protection of freedom of religion or belief for all in Pakistan.

The UK Government is concerned by reports that Pakistan's new National Commission for Minority Rights will exclude Ahmadi Muslims from its protections. We have urged the Government of Pakistan to guarantee the rights of all citizens in line with international standards, and our High Commission in Islamabad raises the persecution of Ahmadi Muslims at the highest levels. The Minister for the Middle East has also raised these issues repeatedly with senior counterparts, including most recently with Deputy Prime Minister Dar in August 2025 when he highlighted the importance of safety and dignity for Ahmadis and the need for inclusive institutions. We will continue to urge the Government of Pakistan to guarantee the rights of all people in accordance with international standards.
