That this House recognises April as the Month of the Military Child and pays tribute to the strength and resilience of children growing up in Armed Forces families across the UK and overseas; further recognises in particular the many military-connected families living in and around Arbroath, including those connected to RM Condor; acknowledges the unique challenges faced by military children, including parental deployment, time apart from family members and changes to schooling and friendships; welcomes the work of Never Such Innocence in supporting children across the UK and overseas to express their experiences through poetry, art, speech and song; commends the work of the Armed Forces Families Support Team in Angus Council and the Naval Families Federation in supporting families in Arbroath and further afield; also recognises the importance of supporting military-connected pupils in local schools in Arbroath and the surrounding area; and calls on the Government to continue supporting organisations and initiatives that amplify the voices of military children and ensure they are properly recognised and supported in their schools and communities.

That this House commends the pupils and staff of Timmergreens Primary School in Arbroath for their compassionate and creative act of solidarity with children in the Sumy Oblast region of Ukraine; notes that pupils wrote letters and produced drawings for children in Sumy as part of the Friendship Agreement between Angus and Sumy, unanimously agreed by Angus Council in March 2025; recognises the commitment of school staff in supporting and encouraging pupils to engage meaningfully with global issues; acknowledges that the letters were delivered during a recent visit to Ukraine and were received by the Governor of Sumy as a deeply moving gesture of friendship; welcomes plans for children in Sumy to write back to pupils at Timmergreens Primary School; and believes this exchange highlights the powerful role schools and young people can play in fostering peace, international friendship and solidarity in times of conflict.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to the response received to written question 44482 answered on 23 April 2025, what progress she has made on recruiting Driving Examiners at i) Arbroath Test Centre and ii) Dundee Test Centre.
DVSA has agreed with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) that 36 defence driving examiners (DDE) will carry out driving tests. The DDEs will be based at the driving test centre (DTC) with the highest demand near either their MOD base location or where they live. These locations are in England.
To ensure fairness for everyone wanting to book a practical driving test, DVSA continues to work hard to combat the unscrupulous practice of reselling tests across the country.
Alongside military support, DVSA is introducing new rules to tackle unfair booking practices that have allowed bots and resellers to profit at learners’ expense.

DVSA is continuing with recruitment campaigns across the country to provide as many tests as possible. A full-time driving examiner (DE) can be expected to add approximately 1,200 tests per year to the booking system.
For Arbroath and Dundee DTCs, whilst one candidate did not successfully complete their training earlier this year, DVSA successfully recruited an additional DE for Dundee DTC during the summer.
DVSA is launching a new recruitment campaign for DE positions at Dundee in the coming weeks, with the aim for successful candidates to be in place by early 2026.
Additionally, to further support test availability in Dundee & Arbroath, DVSA are transferring an examiner to Dundee DTC. DVSA anticipate that their transfer will be finalised by early 2026 as well.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what steps her Department is taking to increase the availability of practical driving tests at (a) Arbroath Test Centre and (b) Dundee Test Centre.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency’s (DVSA) main priority is upholding road safety standards while it works hard to reduce car practical driving test waiting times.
On the 18 December 2024, DVSA set out further plans to reduce driving test waiting times across the country. These steps include recruiting 450 driving examiners (DEs). Full details of these steps can be found on GOV.UK.
DVSA continues to recruit DEs at Arbroath and Dundee driving test centres (DTC) and is currently working through the recruitment process from recent campaigns. As part of this, DVSA has two potential new DEs, one is booked on a training course and one is undergoing pre-employment checks. Additionally, one DE successfully passed training and is now conducting driving tests at Dundee and Arbroath.

We have seen how hard-working they are and the way the community really got behind the project. I put on record my thanks to everybody in the town who has taken part, and to my hon. Friend the Member for Angus and Perthshire Glens (Dave Doogan) for his work on it. Will the Minister work with the Treasury to ensure that there is maximum flexibility for local communities in Arbroath and elsewhere in the UK, to ensure that we can bring these projects to full fruition?

As I stood in the church hall, with board after board after board of feedback from local residents about what they wanted to see, it only firmed my resolve that they should be in charge, rather than us. I came away with Arbroath smokies—they are always worth a visit as well—but I was very impressed with what the town board was doing.

That this House remembers the life of Carlo Carini, Arbroath-born Italian partisan, on the anniversary of his murder by German Occupation forces in Piacenza, Italy, in October 1944; notes Carlo's significant contribution to Italy's liberation, his heroism against fascism which was recognised by the Commander of Allied Forces in Italy, General Alexander, and by the Italian Government who posthumously awarded Carlo the Silver Medal of Italy; highlights that Carlo and his family were very much part of the community in Arbroath; further highlights that Carlo was a skilled footballer in Arbroath and that he also played professionally in Italy; commends the work of the Carlo Carini memorial group and the ANPI (Associazone Nationale Partigiani d'Italia), in remembering and recognising the importance of Carlo's life and the cause for which he fought; thanks the ANPI for their ongoing and successful campaign to establish a youth football competition between teams in Arbroath and Piacenza; and gives thanks for the group's efforts to inspire a new generation thanks to Carlo's example.

As of 13 May 2022:
- 135 people had a practical car driving test booked in Angus.
- 119,865 people had a practical car driving test booked in the UK.
- 60 people had a practical car driving test booked at Arbroath test centre.
The waiting time for a practical car test at Arbroath is five weeks.
In 2019, 11 practical car driving tests were carried out, on average, per week, at Arbroath. 12 practical driving tests were carried out, on average, per week, at Arbroath between 1 January and 1 May 2022.
