To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, what engagement he has had with the Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland following the events that took place on Saturday 25th April 2026.
I pay tribute to the extraordinary efforts of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, led by Chief Constable Jon Boutcher, and our security partners in countering the threat from terrorism in Northern Ireland.
My officials were in contact with the PSNI in the immediate aftermath of the despicable attack claimed by the New IRA, on Dunmurry Police Station.
I regularly meet the Chief Constable and his senior officers to discuss a range of issues and will continue to do so. I met senior PSNI officers on 28 April 2026 to be briefed on the attacks.

That this House congratulates athletics legend Steve Cram CBE on being officially recognised at Monkton Stadium in Jarrow for his outstanding contribution to sport in the North East; commends his contribution to athletics as one of the world’s legendary middle distance runners during the 1980s; applauds his achievements in the world of athletics by setting world records in the 1500 metres and 2000 metres in just 19 days in 1985 becoming the first man to run the mile in just three minutes and forty-six seconds and securing his place among the greatest middle-distance athletes of all time; further applauds his sporting achievements by taking the Silver medal in the 1500m Olympic Games in 1984; recognises the Jarrow Arrow’s contribution to television and media as a presenter, commentator and athletics coach; celebrates his role raising the profile of North East sport and his outstanding charity work, helping to raise millions for good causes and grassroots sport; and further warmly congratulates him on this fully deserved recognition.

The Government is committed to delivering international events with pride, building upon the UK’s global reputation for excellence in staging major sporting events.
That is why I am pleased that we confirmed on 19 July that we will support a partnership bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships and World Para Athletic Championships in the UK.
Beyond this, we continue to work closely with our expert arm’s-length body UK Sport to explore all future hosting opportunities that will strengthen the UK’s major events pipeline. The UK has already secured a strong pipeline of events over the coming years, including the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, and UEFA 2028 European Championships, as well as backing a bid for the 2035 Football Women's World Cup.

Crewe and Nantwich athletic club, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, is home to the only competitive-standard athletics track in south Cheshire. However, the track is in desperate need of improvements so that the club can continue to flourish and support the young people who use its facilities. Will the Minister meet me to discuss what support might be available to deliver those crucial improvements?
