UK State Pensions are payable worldwide, without regard to nationality and are only uprated abroad where we have a legal requirement to do so, for example in countries with which we have a reciprocal agreement that provides for uprating. This approach has been supported by successive governments over many years.

The British Army is refocusing the British Army Training Unit Suffield (BATUS) to support training and experimentation with robotic and autonomous systems, counter-uncrewed aerial systems, and other enabling capabilities across its 2,700 km² training area, reflecting lessons learned from Ukraine.
BATUS provides a unique environment in which to train and test against realistic threats, including through greater freedom to operate at scale across speed, height and electromagnetic spectrum parameters. This enables the Army to develop and evaluate emerging approaches to warfare, including the integration of uncrewed systems, electronic warfare, loitering munitions and counter-uncrewed aerial systems in a contested environment.
As outlined in the Defence Investment Plan, future investment will make greater use of the site's size, scale and freedom of manoeuvre, supporting the accelerated development and delivery of uncrewed systems capability.

The Ministry of Defence is also working closely with HM Treasury and with Finland, Netherlands and other like-minded NATO allies on the establishment of a Multilateral Defence Mechanism (MDM). The Defence Investment Plan includes £400 million towards the UK’s contribution to the MDM.
This independent international financial institution will address our collective challenges in defence procurement by aggregating demand through procurement to achieve better value for money. It will lend to members for joint procurement, stockpiling on members' behalf, and supply chain finance. This mechanism will help member countries improve capability, interoperability and value for money, while giving industry greater demand certainty.

The Government recognises the particular challenges that Canada’s regulatory system poses for small volume manufacturers (SVMs) wishing to export their vehicles to the market.
Following the establishment of a bilateral dialogue on this matter, DBT has held its first official meeting with Transport Canada to secure clarity on the requirements of Canada’s Motor Vehicle Safety Act, as well as potential market entry pathways for bespoke and specialist vehicles.
We are planning further engagement with Transport Canada over the coming months to determine any options that may be available to ease the process for UK SVMs to export their products to the Canadian market.

The UK Government, including officials, embassy staff, and policing partners, are in regular contact with their Canadian, Mexican and US counterparts on a range of issues, including security and public safety planning for the World Cup, and the arrangements for British nationals travelling to watch the tournament. The UK is pleased to collaborate with a number of international partners through bilateral and multilateral activity, including Canada. The UK and Canada share common values and are working together to promote the safe, secure and responsible development of AI. This includes collaboration between the UK's AI Security Institute and Canada's AI Safety Institute, as well as furthering cooperation on supercomputing. In December 2025, building upon 2024's Compute MoU, the UK and Canada agreed a partnership between the UK's National Supercomputing Centre, based at the Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre, and the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, which will advance the delivery of large-scale compute for research.

During the tournament, a deployment from UK policing will support the host nations. This will include a mobile team working closely with the hosts in cities where the England team plays, engaging with travelling fans, and providing reassurance and advice. Officers will also participate in the International Police Cooperation Centre, the intelligence and coordination hub for tournament policing, to support information sharing and situational awareness.
Policing in Scotland is a devolved matter, and the Scottish Government is responsible for arrangements involving Police Scotland.

The department is working closely with our fusion delivery partners to explore opportunities to maximise UK and Canadian expertise in fusion energy, building on our Fusion MoU signed with Natural Resources Canada in 2024. In September 2025, the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) signed an MoU with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Canada to explore collaborating on tritium (‘fusion fuel’) supply and handling. In March 2026, UKAEA with Italian energy major, Eni, announced their collaboration with Canadian company, Kinectrics, as design and fabrication partner for the UKAEA-Eni Tritium fuel cycle research facility, Hydrogen-3 Advanced Technology (H3AT) in Oxfordshire.

In line with the commitment made between our Prime Ministers at June 2025, the UK-Canada Economic and Trade Working Group has met a few times since its establishment in order to identify ways in which the UK and Canada can deepen cooperation and grow our bilateral trading relationship, which was worth around £34bn in 2025. The Working Group last met in April 2026 and will continue to meet when needed to discuss new ideas and tackle barriers to trade. I have also met with my Canadian counterpart several times this year.

The Turing Scheme is a global, demand-led programme and does not ringfence funding for specific destinations. Providers design placements based on their students’ needs and apply for funding accordingly.

The UK has taken the positive step to join Erasmus+ in 2027. Erasmus+ is the EU’s flagship education exchange and partnerships programme and joining will open up world-class opportunities for learners, educators, young people and communities. We anticipate the first Erasmus+ placements will begin in the 2027/28 academic year.
As part of Erasmus+, grant holders in higher education can allocate up to 20% of project funding to support international mobilities to countries that are not associated with the Erasmus+ programme.

The department holds data on students at UK higher education (HE) providers who receive Turing Scheme funding for overseas placements. The department does not hold data on student domicile and figures therefore include international students. Students can undertake both study and work placements, and the following information reflects both the overall number of HE placements in each country, with the number of study placements in brackets.
In 2021/22, 2,467 students undertook placements in the United States (of which 2,138 were study placements), 938 in Canada (841 study placements), and 342 in Australia (313 study placements). Fewer than five students went to New Zealand and so these numbers are suppressed.
In 2022/23, 1,900 students went to the United States (1,277 study placements), 948 to Canada (860 study placements), 1,012 to Australia (863 study placements), and 79 to New Zealand (27 study placements).
In 2023/24, 1,610 students went to the United States (1,127 study placements), 700 to Canada (590 study placements), 983 to Australia (775 study placements), and 142 to New Zealand (74 study placements).
