To ask the Secretary of State for Education, with reference to the Curriculum and Assessment Review interim report, published in March 2025, what steps her Department is taking to ensure (a) climate and (b) nature education is embedded across the curriculum.
It is important that pupils learn about climate and nature education. Therefore, these topics are already included within the geography, science, and citizenship national curricula, and schools can also choose to teach these matters where they feel relevant in other subjects.
In addition, the Natural History GCSE will enable more young people to benefit from the opportunity to learn about the natural world in more depth at key stage 4. It will equip them to understand, and respect, the natural world and contribute to the protection and conservation of the environment locally, nationally and internationally.
The independent Curriculum and Assessment Review’s interim report set out that rapid social, environmental and technological change necessitates that the curriculum keep pace, including a greater focus on sustainability and climate science.
The Review’s final report has been published on 5 November with the government response to the recommendations published on the same day.

That this House congratulates all those taking part in the Young Christian Climate Network (YCCN) Relay to COP26 that is taking place 11th June to 31st October 2021; praises the efforts of the organisers and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to facilitate the events; commends all those taking part to raise awareness of the detrimental impacts of climate change on people’s livelihoods and homes; notes with concern that climate-vulnerable countries cannot access finance for adaption and climate-induced damages without incurring further debt; regrets that the Government has reduced its foreign aid budget to 0.5 per cent of national income; and supports the calls of the YCCN Relay for the Government to reinstate foreign aid budget to pre-covid levels and further calls on the Government to show leadership at COP26 in finding ways to finance the climate-induced loss and damage faced by vulnerable countries whilst avoiding further pushing these countries into debt.

Tackling climate change and environmental degradation and addressing poverty reduction are two sides of the same coin. Many of the programmes we run currently and plan to run in future deliver both climate benefits and reduce poverty.
The doubling of DFID spending on climate and environment over the next five years will need to be discussed and agreed with HM Treasury alongside spending on other development priorities as part of the upcoming Spending Review. The Government remains committed to maximising the impact of our aid funding on the Sustainable Development Goals, and achieving the best outcomes for the UK public.

The UK has pledged to provide at least £5.8bn of International Climate Finance (ICF) between 2016 and 2020. All discussions on funding for departments, including funding on climate finance after 2020 will begin once the Spending Round has formally been announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

The Secretary of State wants to double the amount that the Department spends on climate and the environment over five years from £1.1bn a year in 2020/21 to £2.2bn a year in 2025/26. This builds on the already significant uplift in climate finance over the last five years.

A consultation document was published on 10 May seeking views on proposals for a new statutory policy statement on environmental principles and an independent statutory environmental body to be created through the Environment Bill. The consultation also sought views on the subject matter which should be within the scope of the new environmental body. The consultation closed on 2 August and responses are currently being analysed. The response to the consultation will be published alongside the draft Bill in the autumn

DFIDâs Climate & Environment cadre currently contains 60 advisers.

The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (“the Lab”) is regularly assessed as part of standard programme evaluation. It has performed well and scored an “A” in the last Annual Review (which is publicly available). The Lab has so far catalysed $600million of investment in mitigation and adaptation instruments to climate change in developing countries.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they will publish and place in the Library of both Houses the Met Office Report on climatology and wind shear relating to St Helena airport, submitted in October 2014.
The UK Met Office report was commissioned by the St Helena Government. It is therefore their report. Information in this report, and more recent data on the climatology and wind shear, is provided by the airport operator to airlines and pilots when applying to fly into St Helena.
