To ask His Majesty's Government what discussions they have had with the Welsh government regarding the executive co-operation between Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent councils as a plausible model for English local government.
We are not aware of any discussions which have taken place with the Welsh Government regarding the specifics of the executive co-operation arrangements of Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent councils. With Local Government being devolved, this would be a matter for Welsh Government to consider. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government is continuing to work with the Welsh Government and local authorities in Wales to deliver a range of funded programmes to support communities and local growth, including through the Pride in Place Programme and Local Growth Fund.

The Joint Framework includes unprecedented information sharing commitments by the Irish Government, and we welcome the recent publication by the Irish Government of proposals for legislation that will facilitate this.
However, we are aware that the present lack of information-sharing arrangements between the ICRIR and Irish authorities is impacting a number of Commission investigations.
The Government meets regularly with the Irish Government, at both ministerial and official level, to discuss a range of legacy issues. In the course of such meetings we have raised the matter of Irish authorities co-operation and information sharing with ICRIR, in light of the Dillon judgment, which found the ICRIR capable of conducting effective and human rights compliant investigations.
While this is ultimately a matter for the Irish Government, the UK Government has been clear that it is our view that such a step would allow those cases to progress for the benefit of victims and survivors who have requested these investigations.

Members have raised this before. It is very important to understand the concerns of local people when planning where infrastructure is to be built.

In Suffolk Coastal, Europe’s largest energy project is being developed right now, alongside four other nationally significant energy infrastructure projects. Will the Government consider giving Ofgem more power to enforce co-ordination, so that people, communities and the environment do not suffer needlessly when developers are building projects that will drive forward this country’s net zero ambitions?

The former Secretary of State for Defence (John Healey) held discussions with the Irish Defence Minister, Helen McEntee, where they discussed the UK-Ireland Defence Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as well as ongoing support for Ukraine in March 2026.

In April we formally agreed to a framework for enhanced cooperation between the UK and UAE, which covers foreign affairs, defence, energy, trade and investment, artificial intelligence, judicial cooperation, and illicit finance. This framework will provide a strong basis for growing our cooperation across these areas, including on energy security.

The Government's Statutory Review of the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) 2022-2025 published on 14 April 2026. The Statutory Review invites the operationally independent GCA to consider recommendations about its existing confidentiality protections, transparency of enforcement activity and the potential publication of practical Code examples.
On 7 April 2026 the Government announced that responsibility for the GCA would move from the Department for Business and Trade to Defra to strengthen fairness across the UK's grocery supply chain, streamline oversight of the supply chain and to strengthen links to the Agricultural Supply Chain Adjudicator (ASCA).

The Government is committed to the effective delivery of public services through cross-departmental collaboration, including the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government's focus on place-based approaches. The Prime Minister has established a Public Services Committee, chaired by the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister. The Committee is considering all matters related to improving the population’s experience of public services.

This Government is committed to a deep and enduring partnership with Spain – a partnership which we were pleased to strengthen through agreeing a strategic bilateral framework in September. This Government is also committed to supporting British businesses exporting to Spain and other European markets. During the Chancellor’s recent visit to Madrid, we agreed practical steps with Spain to make it easier for UK services professionals to travel to Spain, which could be worth around £250 million in additional UK services exports over five years.
This Government recognises the strategic imperative for deeper integration between the UK and EU – which shapes much of Spain’s regulatory regime – to strengthen resilience in the economy and stabilise trading conditions for businesses. As the Chancellor set out in her Mais lecture on 17 March, we will pursue an enhanced partnership with the EU to strengthen supply chains and reduce unnecessary frictions for businesses operating in European markets. This will include closer alignment with EU regulation where it is in the UK’s national interest.
The Government is also strengthening engagement with business on EU regulatory issues, and we are exploring how the UK and EU can work together more effectively on shared ambitions to reduce administrative burdens on business, consistent with the UK commitment to cut the administrative burden of regulation by 25% by the end of this Parliament.
