In England, Part F of the Building Regulations requires adequate means of ventilation for people in buildings. Good ventilation is needed to supply fresh air, help ensure good indoor air quality and maintain good thermal comfort. In March, we announced updates to Part F as part of the Future Homes and Buildings Standards, coming into force next year, to support better outcomes for occupants.
Part O of the Building Regulations, which came into force in 2022, requires that new residential buildings are built to mitigate the risk of overheating. This is an important part of our work to adapt our country to face climate change, and it will protect the most vulnerable where they live and sleep. Approved Document O requires that local pollution is taken into account when designing homes, to ensure that the overheating mitigation strategy is usable and safe for occupants.
The Government keeps the Building Regulations under review. The Building Safety Regulator is currently undertaking a technical review of Part O to ensure it is effective and proportionate.

The Government recognises the importance of new-build warranties providing effective protection for homeowners.
We expect that warranty providers must ensure that any policy limit is sufficient to meet the full reasonable cost of rectifying covered major defects and restoring affected properties to their pre-defect condition.
We are carefully considering the commencement of the power, created under section 144 of the Building Safety Act, to strengthen warranties, and this position is being kept under review.
In the meantime, where a homeowner is dissatisfied with the service provided, they should follow the warranty provider’s complaints procedure in the first instance. If the matter remains unresolved, they may be able to refer their complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

It is publicly owned and answerable to Parliament regarding the work of its key statutory policy committees. As set out in the Memorandum of Understanding between HM Treasury and the Bank of England, the Bank of England is entirely responsible for the design, production, issue and distribution of banknotes.

National Highways is continuing to engage with the principal contractor to seek an amicable and timely resolution to the issues identified at M49 Severnside Junction 1. As these discussions continue, no decision has been made on whether to pursue adjudication, and any future consideration of legal options would be subject to legal privilege.
The contract for M49 Severnside Junction 1 was awarded through National Highways’ Collaborative Delivery Framework as a design and build arrangement, with responsibility for the design resting with the appointed contractor. The framework is based on the NEC model, under which the contract value may vary in certain circumstances. However, National Highways is unable to disclose commercially sensitive information, including the original contract value, final sum paid, or any sums sought from the contractor, while ‘without prejudice’ discussions remain ongoing with the contractor, as doing so could compromise those discussions.
Design and build contracts include standard provisions requiring contractors to remedy defects during the defect correction period. Where issues are pursued outside that period, as in this case, any claim would be treated as a standard breach of contract claim. National Highways will continue to engage with the contractor to ensure a shared understanding of the technical information and identify responsibility and liability, determining whether the matter can be resolved amicably and expeditiously.

The design of Bank of England banknotes, including the imagery they feature and the research which informs it, is a matter for the Bank of England. HM Treasury does not hold the focus group notes and reports referred to in the report the Bank of England deposited in the House of Commons Library.
