Dear Ms Ferrier,
As National Statistician and Chief Executive of the UK Statistics Authority, I am responding to your Parliamentary Question asking what recent assessment has been made of the implications of the removal of the UK from the Eurostat database (67174).
Since the UK’s departure from the EU, the UK statistical system has continued to collect and publish our wide range of high-quality data and analysis to inform the UK on social and economic matters. This ensures Government, Parliament, and the public continue to have the statistics they need to inform their decisions.
Our statistics continue to be produced according to our Code of Practice for Statistics, ensuring official UK statistics are trustworthy, quality-assured, and meet society’s needs. Furthermore, in line with our strategy, Statistics for the Public Good, we continue to apply the highest international standards to our work, enabling comparability both over time and internationally.
Outside of the EU, it is no longer appropriate for the UK to be bound into European regulations on statistics, however, we remain strongly committed to co-operating with our colleagues in other national statistical institutes across Europe and the rest of the world, with a view to making UK statistics as widely and easily available as possible for international comparison, analysis and research.

To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the implications of no longer participating in Eurostat's data collection and international comparisons of services for public service provision and planning in the UK.
The National Statistician has made a commitment to the continued alignment between UK official statistics and international standards, emphasising the importance of comparability for users of statistics, both over time and internationally.
Because the UK’s statistics would continue to meet international best practice, where appropriate this would allow for continued comparability with statistics produced under the European framework (much of which is based on international standards, set by bodies such as the United Nations and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development).
The emphasis on continuity and comparability means the UK’s decision to leave the EU is not expected to have any immediate impact on the suite of UK official statistics, including those relevant to public service provision and planning.

Under the terms of the Withdrawal Agreement the UK Government will continue to work closely with and contribute data to Eurostat during the Implementation Period. The nature of the statistical relationship we have with the EU beyond the Implementation Period will be decided as part of the future relationship negotiations.

After exit, the general public will be able to access all published data from Eurostat as normal. Under the terms of the draft Withdrawal Agreement the UK Government will continue to work closely with and contribute data to Eurostat during the implementation period.

On behalf of the Director General for the Office for National Statistics, I have been asked to reply to your Parliamentary Question asking the Minister for the Cabinet Office if he will list the forms which businesses in the UK are required to complete in order to provide returns to Eurostat (192489).
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) runs a wide range of business surveys whose outputs are essential in order to meet UK policy needs and monitor the UK economy, for example measuring Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the UK National Accounts. The majority of the surveys are designed to also enable the UK to meet EU regulations.
Table 1 shows a complete list of ONS business surveys which contribute to statutory returns to Eurostat.

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what assessment his Department has made of the Eurostat resource productivity scale.
No formal assessment of Eurostat's resource productivity scale has been made. However, it was considered alongside a number of other proposals as part of the UK response to a consultation by the European Commission on options for resource efficiency indicators in 2012. The UK response noted that the indicator has a number of recognised weaknesses regarding the coverage of materials and the treatment of imports. We are working with the Commission to help improve the methodology used.
