That this House expresses deep concern at FIFA's decision to suspend the automatic one match ban imposed on United States striker Folarin Balogun following reports that the decision came after political interference from President Donald Trump; believes that sporting decisions must be taken transparently, fairly and free from political influence; notes growing concern over FIFA's ticketing policies, including excessive prices that have left many lifelong supporters unable to afford to watch their national teams compete on the world's biggest stage; regrets that football, a game that should be accessible to all, is increasingly pricing ordinary fans out of attending international tournaments; and calls on FIFA to properly uphold the principles of sporting integrity, transparency and fair access for supporters while rooting out corruption in all its forms.

That this House notes with concern FIFA’s decision to refuse permission for supporters of Barrow AFC to display a flag bearing the club’s historic crest at the FIFA World Cup on the grounds that the badge includes the image of a submarine and therefore falls within FIFA’s restrictions on military or weapon-related imagery; recognises that the submarine depicted on the crest is a longstanding symbol of Barrow-in-Furness and reflects the town’s unique shipbuilding heritage and its internationally renowned role in the design and construction of submarines for the Royal Navy; further notes that the crest is an expression of local identity, community pride and industrial heritage rather than a political statement or endorsement of conflict; acknowledges the generations of workers, engineers, apprentices and skilled tradespeople whose efforts have contributed to the prosperity and character of the town; believes that sporting bodies should distinguish between historic civic symbols and imagery intended to promote violence or military activity; and calls on FIFA to review its decision, engage constructively with Barrow AFC and its supporters, and adopt a more proportionate approach that respects the cultural and historical significance of community emblems while maintaining its commitment to ensuring that football remains open and welcoming to all.

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, whether she has had discussions with (a) FIFA and (b) the Football Association on the selection criteria for hosting future FIFA World Cup tournaments.
As the rights holder for FIFA World Cup tournaments, FIFA publishes the criteria and associated timeline for prospective future host nations to meet in order to be deemed viable. The Football Association works closely with the UK Government and UK Sport when considering whether to bid for future major football events.
This occurred recently, with the UK-wide bid submitted to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2035. Hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2035 on home turf would be a monumental moment in our sporting history, driving growth and leaving a lasting legacy. The UK Government, alongside the four Home Nation Football Associations and Devolved Governments, are supporting FIFA as they evaluate the bid - prior to their decision on hosts in April 2026.
For the FIFA Men’s World Cup tournaments, FIFA has determined the host nations for the next three tournaments, until 2034. The government has not been part of discussions regarding future selection criteria at this time.

FIFA is an independent international body with its own governance structures. Ticket pricing is a commercial decision determined solely by the World Cup organisers, which are FIFA and the Host Nations (Canada, Mexico, and the United States).
Representations regarding the interests of fans fall to the respective football associations. The Football Association (FA), Scottish Football Association (SFA), Football Association of Wales (FAW), and Irish Football Association (IFA) are the recognised home nation representatives within the international football structure, and are the appropriate bodies to raise such matters with FIFA.
