That this House thanks St John's Church, Gowerton, Bethal Chapel, Penclawdd, Gowerton Community Council, Gowerton Archive Group, the pupils and staff of Tregwyr Infant and Junior Schools, Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr and Gowerton Comprehensive School for their contributions to the commemoration services on 21st and 22nd January to remember the victims of the Elba Colliery explosion of 21st January 1905; applauds the children and staff of Tregwyr Junior School for their work in creating a fine memorial garden at St John's Church to honour the 11 miners killed and many others seriously injured in the 1905 disaster; further congratulates the children of this school who helped to produce the excellent animated film about the tragedy that focuses on the loss of the youngest miner to die, George Williams of penclawdd, who was just 14 years old; and recognises that it is important that new generations should learn the real histories of the communities in which they live including learning about the sacrifices that working people have made over the years.

That this House is deeply concerned that during the period for voting on the proposals for opt-out of Gowerton School, Swansea, an anonymous franked card with a Cardiff post-mark was delivered to the parents; notes that this urged parents to support opt-out; is puzzled that this unsigned card was franked with an identification number belonging to a firm named Konica Peter Llewellyn Ltd., Norbury Road, Fairwater, Cardiff; notes that this firm has its Welsh head office at 11/12 De La Beche St., Swansea; deplores the use of business expenses in a political campaign in pursuit of Government policy, and asks whether this cost is being charged against the firm's tax; regrets the furtiveness of the person who first obtained a list of parents and then communicated with them anonymously from over 40 miles away rather that from its Swansea office and assumes that this was to make it difficult to trace the cards; calls upon Mr Alan Devonald of Langland, the Swansea head of Konica's Welsh operations, to explain how and why his firm was mis-used in this way; asks if there is any relationship with the fact that the Chairman pro tem of Gowerton School governors is a Mr Bruce Roberts, who works at Konica; and doubts if such a person is fit to be a chair of governors.
