To ask His Majesty's Government what financial support they will provide to Hillingdon Council to help it to support homeless Chagossians.
The Government is committed to supporting Chagossian British citizens as they settle in the UK. While individuals are expected to arrange accommodation before arrival, we recognise that in some circumstances, exceptional pressures may arise locally.
Hillingdon Council has received additional funding to assist in such cases, and we continue to keep support for all councils under review.

That this House expresses its grave concern at the serious problems being experienced by residents in the Heathrow villages as a result of the anti-social behaviour of rogue drivers of private hire vehicles, including physical, verbal and racial abuse and defecating and littering, notes that the London Borough of Hillingdon has launched a consultation on the introduction of a Public Space Protection Order covering the Heathrow villages, West Drayton and Pinkwell wards to address these issues; and following this consultation urges the Department for Transport to progress swiftly the adoption of this order in order to bring to a speedy halt the suffering local residents in the Heathrow villages have endured.

The Household Support Fund is an intentionally flexible scheme, designed to enable Local Authorities to deliver a tailored response to local need as they have the ties and knowledge to best determine how this support should be provided.
Local Authorities have the flexibility to design and deliver their Household Support Fund scheme through a variety of routes, including, for example, offering vouchers to households, directly providing food, or issuing grants to third parties. This means that it is for each local council to decide how, where and when they distribute their funding within the parameters of the guidance and grant determination set out for them by the Department for Work and Pensions.
Local Authorities are encouraged through our guidance to work together with neighbouring Authorities to help prevent double provision and/or no provision, especially where the allocation of provision may take place in one area, but the award recipient has a residential address in another.
That this House condemns the appalling destruction of the wildlife area in the heart of the traditional Middlesex village of Longford by the new owners of the land, Yasar Nawaz and Kamaljit Singh Gill, contrary to the assurances they gave to the local villagers; notes that in addition to the ripping up of the natural fauna and flora on the site, the riverside tree, in which the kingfishers have perched for years, has now been uprooted; further notes that despite appeals for action the Environment Agency has significantly failed to protect this waterside area; expresses fear that there is a strong possibility there will now be an attempt to use this site for off airport car parking that has blighted the local area; and consequently urges Hillingdon Council to be vigilant in enforcing its planning policies against such misuse of this site.

That this House congratulates Mr Ian Clarke for his campaign to expose age discrimination by the London Borough of Hillingdon in its reform of the council’s over 65 discount scheme, in which means testing was introduced in an arbitrary and discriminatory manner; considers that the council’s argument that the production and consideration of an impact assessment provides the legal cover for this discriminatory policy decision is neither legally nor morally convincing; for that reason urges the council to reconsider its decision; and notes that Government ministers have equally failed to intervene to prevent this abuse of power by Hillingdon council.

That is despite a funding imbalance in national rates, given the local population and the numbers of asylum seekers. Will my right hon. Friend commit to work with me to look at how we can ensure that those authorities, such as Hillingdon Council, linked with major ports of entry are given the resources to cope with such demands?
As a local authority closely tied to Heathrow airport, the London Borough of Hillingdon has been doing great work to manage the impact of those currently in the asylum process. That is despite a funding imbalance in national rates, given the local population and the numbers of asylum seekers. Will my right hon. Friend commit to work with me to look at how we can ensure that those authorities, such as Hillingdon Council, linked with major ports of entry are given the resources to cope with such demands?
