The UK Special Envoy for Post-Holocaust Issues reports regularly to the Minister for Multilateral and Human Rights on progress, as outlined in his terms of reference. Since his appointment in February, the Envoy has undertaken a range of international engagements, as well as meeting regularly with domestic stakeholders.

I appreciate that this error has resulted in an unacceptable delay in responding to the Noble Baroness and apologise for any inconvenience caused. Arrangements are now being made to submit the answers as soon as possible.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what steps her Department is taking to ensure that primary school children are educated about the Holocaust.
The Government is deeply committed to ensuring pupils receive Holocaust education. It is the only compulsory topic in Key Stage 3 History. Primary schools learn about the Holocaust in events such as Holocaust Memorial Day.
Alongside this, the Government is investing significantly in support for schools and teachers. We fund programmes to strengthen teaching quality, including the University College London Centre for Holocaust Education’s professional development work and the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Lessons from Auschwitz programme.
In the Autumn Budget on 30 October 2024, we also committed a further £2 million for Holocaust remembrance and education to help ensure that every young person can access recorded survivor testimony. This sits alongside £4.8 million of wider departmental funding between 2024 and 2027, including £2.3 million for Lessons from Auschwitz, £500,000 for the Centre for Holocaust Education, and £2 million for our Supporting Holocaust Survivor Testimony in Teaching programme across 2025-26 and 2026-27.
Together, this ensures that pupils develop a meaningful and age-appropriate understanding of the Holocaust, supported by high-quality teaching and powerful survivor testimony.
I recently joined a class of year 5 pupils from St Peter’s school in my constituency on a visit to the National Holocaust Museum in Laxton. I saw at first hand that places such as that are vital to ensuring that young people absorb lessons about the Holocaust. Will the Minister therefore commit to visiting that museum with me and a local school?

We are committed to upholding the Terezin Declaration on Holocaust-Era Assets, which sets out measures to right the economic wrongs that accompanied the Holocaust against the Jews and other victims of Nazi persecution across Europe. The UK Special Envoy for Post-Holocaust Issues, Jon Pearce MP, most recently met with the president of the World Jewish Restitution Organisation (WJRO) on May 6 where the issue of restitution, including in Poland, was discussed as a priority. We continue to work closely with the WJRO to progress restitution efforts.

Since his appointment in February, the UK Special Envoy for Post-Holocaust Issues has made excellent progress against his Terms of Reference for the role, including attending the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance plenary meeting in Argentina from 1-4 June, as the head of the UK's delegation, and meeting with the President of the World Jewish Restitution Organisation on 6 May to discuss the UK's ongoing commitment to the Terezin Declaration on Holocaust-Era Assets. Further details of the Envoy's work, including his overseas visits, will be confirmed in the usual way in due course.

We continue to engage with Poland on post-Holocaust issues and tackling antisemitism, including through our Embassy in Warsaw. For instance, in February we facilitated a Community Security Trust best practice visit to Poland through our programme fund to support post-Holocaust initiatives for financial year 2025-26. Further details of our engagement with Poland on these issues, including any planned visits by the Special Envoy, will be confirmed in the usual way in due course.

The government is deeply concerned about the spread of antisemitic content and dealing with it is a priority for this government. We recognise that AI-generated content can undermine trust and spread hate online. Under the Online Safety Act (OSA), enforced by Ofcom, regulated services must tackle AI-generated content that is illegal (including that which stirs up racial hatred, is threatening or abusive, or otherwise meets criminal thresholds), or harmful to children. This includes where content is antisemitic. The Secretary of State wrote to Ofcom in October and November 2025 asking them to do everything possible under the Act to tackle this content.
The department is exploring how to improve detection and transparency around AI-generated material, including through the Deepfake Detection Challenge 2026. We are also improving media literacy, encouraging critical engagement with and awareness of divisive and misleading content.
The government continues to work with community groups and partners to challenge hatred and protect public understanding from harmful content.
