To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether disciplinary action was taken against Lucy Hunte, national programme manager for apprenticeships at NHS England, over social media posts about the Leader of the Opposition.
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether disciplinary action was taken against Lucy Hunte, national programme manager for apprenticeships at NHS England, over social media posts about the Leader of the Opposition.
Ministers cannot comment on matters relating to individual employees. Whether or not to take disciplinary action is a private employment decision and is the responsibility of the employer concerned. Any such decision would not be widely shared because disclosure would amount to a breach of the Data Protection Act 2018. NHS England manages conduct matters in accordance with its policies and procedures.
I had the pleasure of watching England versus DR Congo with some of the good folks at the Campaign to Ban Trophy Hunting. Thankfully, the England men’s team have not taken the title of the campaign too literally, and are still on the hunt to bring at least one trophy...

Defra officials continue to engage with relevant stakeholders to determine the scope and design of this ban, including what will be required to implement it effectively. The detail of arrangements such as training for border officials and checks at cargo and passenger terminals will be considered as part of that design work.
That this House notes with concern that the brown hare is the only game species in England and Wales without a statutory close season, leaving pregnant does and nursing mothers liable to be shot during the breeding season and their leverets to starve; recognises that hares are sentient animals capable of suffering; further notes that the shooting of pregnant does and nursing mothers during the breeding season raises significant animal welfare concerns; understands that the brown hare population has declined by an estimated 80% over the past century to fewer than 500,000, with illegal hare coursing placing further pressure on the species; recognises that the brown hare is a UK Biodiversity Action Plan priority species and forms part of the Government's indicators for legally binding species abundance targets; observes that Scotland and Northern Ireland have protected hares since 2011, as do most European countries; welcomes the intention in the Animal Welfare Strategy for England to consider bringing forward a close season for hares; also notes that the Government's concurrent consultation on firearms licensing, including the reclassification of shotguns, provides an opportunity to increase the protection of quarry species during their breeding season; regrets the omission of any close season measure from the King's Speech; and calls on the Government to bring forward legislation at the earliest opportunity establishing a statutory close season for hare shooting so that leverets born this spring and in future years receive the legal protection on which the species' survival depends.

That this House condemns the grindadráp or Grind in the Faroe Islands, where pods of dolphins are driven into bays by small boats and slaughtered by hand; notes with concern that more than 1,000 cetaceans were killed in 2025, including juveniles and pregnant females; further notes that this practice is largely unregulated; recognises that cultural norms cannot justify the extreme suffering inflicted on highly sentient marine mammals; acknowledges the efforts of the Stop the Grind initiative in advocating to end to this practice; urges the Government to continue to raise this issue with the Faroese authorities, and call for an immediate end of the grindadráp; further urges the Government to review the terms of the free trade agreement with the Faroe Islands if swift action is not forthcoming; and calls for country-of-origin labelling of Faroese fish products to be mandated to enable consumers to make informed choices.

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, which species of conservation concern will be covered by the forthcoming legislation to ban the import of hunting trophies.
Defra continues to engage with relevant stakeholders to help determine the most appropriate scope for a ban. Species of conservation concern are listed primarily on Appendices I and II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) based on the level of threat that international trade poses to their conservation status.
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, how many import permits were issued for hunting trophies between July 1, 2024 to May 31, 2026, for which species, and for what type of hunting trophy.
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, how many import permits were issued for hunting trophies between July 1, 2024 to May 31, 2026, for which species, and for what type of hunting trophy.
Between 1 July 2024 and 31 May 2026, the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) issued 33 import permits for hunting trophies under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES),
Trade data up to 2024 is available on the CITES Trade Database CITES Trade Database.
The species of the 33 import permits issued under purpose H (- Hunting Trophies) between 1 July 2024 and 31st May 2026 were as follows:
- Crocodylus niloticus
- Giraffa camelopardalis
- Hippopotamus amphibius (x 5)
- Loxodonta Africana (x 18)
- Oryx dammah
- Panthera leo
- Panthera pardus
- Ursus americanus (x 3)
- Ursus arctos (x 2)
It is important to note that a single permit does not necessarily correspond to a single animal; in some cases, multiple CITES permits may be required for an individual animal.
To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, if she will publish the list of species the Department considers to be of conservation concern under the proposed legislation to ban imports of hunting trophies; and how the Department developed its criteria.

My Lords, the memoir of the noble Baroness, Lady Batters, titled Harvest: A Farmer’s Story of Heritage, Home and Hope, has just been published. I notice that she dedicated it:
“To farmers, their families and all those who feed us”.
That is a fitting reminder of the importance of today’s debate. While...

My Lords, I spent yesterday standing in a field in that new spiritual home of British agriculture, Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire, for the cereals trade show. Nearly 20,000 farmers, growers, advisers, machinery dealers, drone flyers and, yes—by way of declaration of interest—fertiliser suppliers such as myself, huddled under umbrellas,...

My Lords, I declare my interest as a farmer and the owner of a country estate.
When considering the rural economy—which, after all, consists mainly of people working hard for long hours with little reward, frequently for the good of others—we should remember that the English countryside
does not look like it...
