In the North East, and across the rest of England, we are committed to increasing access to dental treatment for those in greatest need, including children, as set out in the reform programme published last December, and available at the following link:

The latest NHS Dental Statistics show continued improvement across a range of key measures. Just under three million additional National Health Service dental treatments were delivered in 2025/26 compared to the year before the 2024 election. Approximately half of those additional treatments benefited children, with access for children now above pre-pandemic levels. The National Dental Epidemiology Programme publishes data on the oral health of five year old schoolchildren every two years. The latest data, for 2023/24, is available at the following link:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment her Department has made of the potential impact of NHS procurement processes on the ability of innovative SMEs to bring new products and services into the NHS.
In 2025/26, 10.5% of procurement expenditure for the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and its arm’s-length bodies was awarded directly to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). DHSC does not centrally collect or hold equivalent data for National Health Service trusts or integrated care boards, which manage and report on their own procurement activity.
DHSC works regularly with colleagues across Government, including the Cabinet Office and HM Treasury, on matters relating to procurement, economic growth, and investment. This includes consideration of how public procurement and NHS purchasing power can support growth, innovation, and opportunities across the United Kingdom, including for SMEs.
As a leading employer across the country, the NHS also continues to play its full part in supporting growth, training, and employment in local communities, in line with the Government's broader economic goals, and that includes ensuring procurement opportunities are available and accessible to SMEs.

In the context of recommendation 30, our ‘AI Landscape’ refers to the diverse ecosystem of publicly funded organisations that deliver research and expertise on AI. The Centre for AI Measurement focusses on the technical and scientific foundations of AI assurance to enable responsible AI adoption and drive growth. The AI Security Institute exists to build a scientific understanding of the risks posed by the most advanced AI systems and develop technical mitigations against them. The Regulatory Innovation Office has funded regulator-led projects to strengthen our capability to regulate and use AI and launched a sandbox with the MHRA to address regulatory barriers to innovation. Whilst the Ada Lovelace Institute is an important voice, it is an independent organisation and has not received significant government funding.
The Alan Turing Institute is currently undertaking a strategic shift to focus its efforts on strengthening the UK’s national resilience. Government supports that transition and has been working closely with UKRI and the Turing to ensure the Institute plays a unique and impactful role in our AI ecosystem. Within that role, the Turing is already an active partner in the Laboratory for AI Security Research.

The Regulators’ Pioneer Fund supports regulators and local authorities to test innovative regulatory approaches that enable emerging technologies and innovation. Round 4 projects were assessed against need, alignment with Fund objectives, capability, governance, deliverability and value for money, and monitored against agreed outputs, outcomes and milestones.
Round 4 evaluation will commence once project delivery has concluded. An independent evaluation of Round 3, published in May 2026, found strong evidence that the Fund strengthened regulators’ capability to support innovation and collaboration. As some wider innovation impacts take longer to materialise, we intend to continue monitoring completed projects to capture this.
