The National Gallery report that the total budgeted cost for their Citizens Assembly is expected to be £250,000 over five years from 2025 to 2029. As part of this, the National Gallery contracted the Sortition Foundation to recruit a panel reflective of the UK population.

Suffolk Constabulary and Norfolk Constabulary were notified of Home Office interest in MoD Barnham on 18 June 2026. Members of Parliament and Local Authority senior officials were notified on 24 June 2026. Local Authority Leaders were briefed on 25 June 2026. The Home Office has since engaged with stakeholders, including NHS bodies, regarding the proposed use of MoD Barnham.

The Digital ID Advisory Group will support the delivery of digital ID and provide independent scrutiny and oversight as it is developed. The members are John Fallon, Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE, David Rogers MBE, Emma Wright, Justine Roberts CBE and The Hon. Victor Dominello.

The Envoys are continuing to work comprehensively within the Council, acting as advisers, mentors and monitors to oversee the Council’s improvement journey and ensure compliance with its Best Value Duty.

In regulations, we intend to create a power for Local Scrutiny Committees to impose a civil penalty in certain circumstances. This can be where; a person fails to attend a meeting, a person fails to answer a question at a meeting; a person fails to provide a committee with information or a document, and, where a person misleads a committee.
Regulations and associated statutory guidance made under the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Act will set out further details including who would be in scope of such civil penalties and what may constitute a reasonable excuse. We are consulting with Mayoral Strategic Authorities and will bring forward more detail in due course.

The relevant statutory framework for combined authorities is set out in the Combined Authorities (Overview and Scrutiny Committees) Order 2017, which provides that a combined authority overview and scrutiny committee may require the mayor, and other members or officers, to attend before it to answer questions.
For local authorities operating executive arrangements, including those with council executive mayors, the framework is set out in the Local Government Act 2000 and supporting regulations, including the Overview and Scrutiny Committees (England) Regulations 2012. These provide scrutiny committees with powers to require members of the executive, including mayors, to attend and answer questions, and to require information.

This Government is committed to supporting the growth and long-term success of the mutual sector, including building societies, in line with its manifesto commitment to double the size of the mutual and co‑operative sector.
The Government recognises the importance of member ownership and engagement as a defining feature of mutuals. Within the existing legislative and regulatory framework, it is generally for individual building societies and their members to determine detailed governance arrangements, including matters such as executive remuneration, board composition and the format of annual general meetings. This includes the use of different voting mechanisms, such as electronic voting systems, which are a matter for individual societies and their members within the existing framework.
The Government therefore has no plans to introduce prescriptive requirements in these areas, but will continue to keep the framework under review as part of its broader work to support mutuals.

The government has committed to clarifying the law in relation to fully virtual Annual General Meetings (AGMs). 85% of OECD Factbook countries already allow virtual AGMs, including the United States, most European Union countries, and other major financial centres, such as Japan.
Officials are engaging with investors and business on the practicalities of this, and our Modernising Corporate Reporting programme will include consideration of the shareholder safeguards that should accompany this change. This will ensure that fully virtual meetings only take place where shareholders agree, preserving the option for physical or hybrid attendance where it is shareholders’ preferred format.
A full assessment of fully virtual AGMs as part of the consultation, is due to be published shortly.
