To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what the expected delivery time is for equipment funded by the £100m commitment to the NATO Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List.
At the 36th Ukraine Defence Contact Group on 8 September, the UK announced a £100 million contribution to the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), which will support the delivery of Patriot missiles and other critical equipment before the winter.
US equipment purchased through PURL flows continuously and is prioritised in line with Ukraine's most urgent needs. The equipment funded by the UK will be released as part of this.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what steps he is taking to ensure that the UK is able to meet its NATO Article III commitment with emerging technological developments.
The Ministry of Defence remains committed to meeting its obligations under Article III of the North Atlantic Treaty, including maintaining and developing the UK's individual and collective NATO capabilities. Defence draws on its strengths in science and technology research to assess and prioritise emerging technologies that can enhance operational effectiveness, resilience and technological advantage, including quantum technologies, engineering biology and advanced materials. This work is aligned with wider Government and Defence strategies which identify science, technology and innovation as critical enablers of future national security, economic growth and military advantage.
Defence also works closely with NATO and Allies on emerging technologies for Defence capability development and interoperability, including through scientific partnerships, demonstrating the UK's and the Alliance's collective commitment, to strengthening military capability and ensuring NATO remains able to respond to future threats.

The United Kingdom continues to work closely with NATO Allies to improve interoperability, strengthen collective deterrence and maximise opportunities for commonality and collaboration in capability development, procurement and support. Through the Army's wider modernisation activity, the Department is seeking to deliver a more integrated and effective land force, including through greater commonality where this delivers operational and value-for-money benefits.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what lessons have been learnt from the UK-led DIAMOND initiative.
The UK-led DIAMOND (Delivering Integrated Air and Missile Operationally Networked Defences) initiative aims to support the strengthening of Allied air and missile defence systems within NATO. Through this work, the importance of effective command and control, information sharing, the ability of national systems to operate together and a strong and resilient industrial base has been reinforced. The UK is now reviewing where best to focus DIAMOND to complement wider NATO and European IAMD efforts.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, pursuant to the answer of 8 September 2026 to question 22871 on NATO, by when will he publish the NATO Interoperability Roadmap.
The Government is committed to a NATO-first approach and to strengthening interoperability across the Alliance. The Strategic Defence Review directed Defence to establish a roadmap for delivering deeper interoperability with NATO Allies and for leading the way on shared approaches and standards by January 2026.
In response, the UK's NATO Interoperability Roadmap was completed in January 2026 and approved by the then Minister for the Armed Forces, Al Carns MP. Implementation commenced immediately thereafter.
The Roadmap is aligned with NATO's Interoperability Plan. It provides Defence with a framework to improve the Armed Forces' ability to operate effectively alongside NATO Allies through common standards, digital integration, training, exercises and capability development.
The UK’s NATO Interoperability Roadmap contains information relating to Defence planning and capability development and will therefore not be published. The House may be assured, however, that the SDR's "NATO First" principle remains central to both the Roadmap and its implementation.

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what the scope is of the UK’s contribution to NATO enhanced deterrence in the Arctic Region under Arctic Sentry.
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, what the scope is of the UK’s contribution to NATO enhanced deterrence in the Arctic Region under Arctic Sentry.
The United Kingdom considers itself the nearest neighbour to the Arctic region and recognises that the security of this region is inextricably linked to our own national security. By assuming command of NATO's Joint Force Command Norfolk, which is responsible for coordinating Alliance activity under Arctic Sentry, the United Kingdom will demonstrate the growing leadership role of European Allies within NATO. This aligns with the Ankara Summit Declaration's commitment to a stronger Europe in a stronger NATO.
The UK's contribution to Arctic Sentry is also illustrated by recent deployments, notably Operation Firecrest, under the leadership of HMS Prince of Wales. Supported by HMS Duncan, RFA Tidespring, F-35B Lightning aircraft, rotary-wing assets, and advanced uncrewed systems, the deployment demonstrated the UK's ability to project credible, multi-domain military capability in support of NATO's enhanced deterrence and defence objectives across the Arctic region.

My Lords, from these Benches, I thoroughly endorse everything that the noble Earl, Lord Minto, has just said. We often say that, on matters of defence, the Official Opposition and these Benches are at one with His Majesty’s Government, but a range of issues need to be dealt with, scrutinised...
