As Permanent Secretary of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), I am responding to your
Parliamentary Question asking, further to the Written Answer by Baroness Anderson of
Stoke-on-Trent on 7 July (HL1157) [1], how many households in (1) Greater London, and (2)
the United Kingdom, had a household reference person born (a) in the United Kingdom,
and (b) outside the United Kingdom, in the 2001 Census (HL1903).
The census is conducted separately by the statistical agencies for England and Wales,
Scotland, and Northern Ireland, and outputs are published independently. There is no
single UK-wide 2001 Census dataset. Therefore, the data presented here relates to Greater
London and England and Wales rather than the UK.
Table 1 below shows the number of households with a Household Reference Person (HRP)
born in and outside of the UK for Greater London and for England and Wales. The figures
for Greater London include all 32 boroughs and the City of London.
Please note that these figures are not available as part of the 2001 Census standard
outputs and were produced through our commissioned tables service. Table C1341 shows
the data at the England and Wales level, and C1347 shows the data at the London
Borough level.
We will place copies of these commissioned tables in the House of Lords Library.

As I have said to the Noble Lord in previous answers, we are aware of the cases referenced in these questions. The UK maintains a constructive and longstanding relationship with Bahrain, enabling frank discussion on a range of issues including human rights. We recognise the important role of the Special Investigation Unit within Bahrain's oversight framework and note that an officer has been sentenced in relation to the death of Sayed Mohammed al-Mousawi.
The Gulf Strategy Fund (GSF) programme for the financial year 2025/26 supported a wide range of UK strategic objectives in Bahrain. This included support to security institutions in progressing community justice reforms and exploring avenues of cooperation to counter money laundering and terrorist-financing. All GSF programming is subject to rigorous assessments to ensure it meets with human rights obligations and our values.

As Permanent Secretary of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), I am responding to your Parliamentary Question asking how many households in (1) Greater London, and (2) the United Kingdom, had a household reference person born (a) in the United Kingdom, and (b) outside the United Kingdom, in 2010 and 2025 (HL1157).
The information is derived from census data and is therefore available for 2011 and 2021.
However, there is no single UK-wide census dataset. The census is conducted separately by the statistical agencies for England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, and outputs are published independently.
As a result, the data presented here relates to England and Wales only (with London shown separately), rather than the UK as a whole.
Table 1 below shows the number of households with a Household Reference Person (HRP) born in and outside of the UK for London and for England and Wales. The figures for London include all 32 boroughs and the City of London. For the 2011 Census, the data was not available as part of the standard outputs. As a result, it was produced separately through our commissioned tables service. The 2011 dataset is from 2011 Census commissioned table CT0237.
The 2021 Census data in table 1 below was obtained using the ONS’s ‘Create a custom dataset’ tool. We will place a copy of this dataset, HL1157 2021 Census custom dataset, HRP England and Wales & London, in the House of Commons Library.
