The search that was carried out in November 2025 for UIN 87821 listed 11 companies. Accord UK Limited has since cancelled, as of 31 December 2025, its lactose free olanzapine licences, leaving 10 companies from the original list: Generics (UK) Limited; Nordic Pharma Limited; Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (UK) Limited; Milpharm Limited; Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Europe BV; Torrent Pharma (UK) Limited: Eramol (UK) Limited; Krka, Tovarna Zdravil, D.D., Novo Mesto; Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Europe Limited; and Neon Healthcare Limited.

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what recent assessment he has made of the availability of lactose free Olanzapine in (a) Slough and (b) Berkshire.
I have made no assessment of the availability of lactose free olanzapine in Slough and Berkshire. Information is not held at that level. However, I am informed by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) that records show that lactose free olanzapine should be readily available throughout the United Kingdom. At present there are 11 companies that do not list lactose as an ingredient in their olanzapine. All ingredients are listed on the relevant summary of product characteristics and should be confirmed by the healthcare professional prescribing the medicine and the pharmacist performing the dispensing.

We are aware that there have been supply constraints with olanzapine 210 milligram, 300 milligram, and 405 milligram powder and solvent for prolonged release suspension for injection. We worked with manufacturers to uplift production, and the issues were resolved in February 2024. We worked with NHS England to issue national communications containing advice on how to manage patients whilst there was a disruption to supply. We are not aware of any supply issues affecting oral presentations of olanzapine, or of any supply issues with any risperidone or haloperidol products.
To ask His Majesty's Government what steps they are taking to mitigate the current shortage of the psychotropic medication Olanzapine, Risperidone and Haloperidol following the sudden departure of two generic manufacturers from the UK market.

Departmental officials are aware that there were some short term supply issues which affected the availability of olanzapine and quetiapine tablets in May/June 2017.
A major generic supplier of olanzapine tablets experienced some short term manufacturing issues which consequently meant other suppliers experienced an increase in demand at short notice, which they could not readily meet. However, the manufacturing issues were resolved quickly and the overall supply of olanzapine tablets improved within a few weeks.
In terms of quetiapine supply issues, this was caused by a major generic supplier, with large market shares of quetiapine tablets, discontinuing this product range without notifying the Department. This led to significant market disruption as other suppliers experienced a large increase in demand at short notice. However, suppliers were able to bring in additional supplies to cope with the extra demand and supplies improved by July 2017.
During this period, Departmental officials were in regular contact with all United Kingdom licensed suppliers of both quetiapine and olanzapine and worked closely with them to discuss their supply position and to ensure sufficient suppliers remained available to meet UK requirements.
We are not aware of any current supply issues affecting olanzapine and quetiapine and several suppliers have confirmed that supplies are readily available.
