On World Cancer Day, we are publishing our national cancer plan to transform care for patients. It means investment in cutting-edge technology, so that our exceptional frontline staff can give world-class care. It funds more tests and scans, meaning faster diagnosis and treatment, and tailored treatment in specialist centres. We will cover the costs of every family whose child needs to travel for cancer care, because their focus should only be on recovery, not worrying about money.
This morning I had meetings with ministerial colleagues and others. In addition to my duties in this House, I shall have further such meetings later today.

Up and down the country, this Government are restoring pride in place by investing in our high streets—the beating heart of our communities—yet in Paisley and Renfrewshire South, the SNP-led Renfrewshire council has done the opposite. It has sat on its hands while the owners of the Paisley Centre, who received planning permission to develop the centre some years ago, have sought support to transform our town centre. Does the Prime Minister agree that it is only the SNP’s lack of ambition and failure of leadership that is letting Paisley down, and will he work with me to restore pride in Paisley town centre?

My hon. Friend is a superb champion for Paisley. Her constituents deserve a Scottish Government who match her dedication. For our part, we have delivered a record funding settlement. We are investing £280 million in Pride in Place across 14 Scottish communities. We have secured shipbuilding on the Clyde for over a decade and have just announced an AI growth zone in Lanarkshire. The choice is clear: a third decade of failure under the SNP, or real change for Scotland under Anas Sarwar.

Will the Leader of the House join me in congratulating the great town of Paisley in my constituency on being shortlisted for the Scotland Loves Local town of the year award? Will he go further and throw his full support behind Paisley’s nomination as the best local town in Scotland?

There is a certain risk to that, but I will do it. I certainly join my hon. Friend in congratulating Paisley, and wish it the best of luck. She raises the important point about pride in communities and I am sure that her constituents are proud. I hope that that...

On 5 July, Renfrewshire hosts the annual Sma’ Shot Day parade, as it celebrates the victory of weavers over their employers in the 19th century. For more than 30 years, Mr Tony Lawler, a Paisley Buddy, has led the procession, beating the Charleston drum. Will the Leader of the House...

I absolutely join my hon. Friend in wishing everybody a happy Sma’ Shot Day celebration and all that involves, and I congratulate Tony Lawler on 30 fantastic years of service to that rich history and festival. She is right: as a Labour Government, we celebrate the advancement of workers’ rights...

That this House commends the work of Paisley Rotary, Future Paisley and the Paisley community in providing a fitting permanent memorial to honour the 71 children who lost their lives in the Glen Cinema Disaster on the 31st of December 1929; notes that the children died after a smoking canister reel caused a panic which sadly resulted in a crush as the exit doors had been locked; acknowledges that changes to Health and Safety legislation were introduced following the tragedy including the introduction of push bars on fire exits; further notes that the memorial will offer future generations the opportunity to remember those who were lost and also those survived such as Emily Brown and Robert Pope who attended the unveiling ceremony; welcomes that the annual remembrance event which takes place every Hogmanay will now have a unique and dedicated focal point.

That this House expresses its sorrow at the passing of Paisley Rugby Club stalwart Malcolm Dodd; notes that Malcolm, or Malky as he was known to all, was a larger than life figure who had volunteered to fill the vast majority of positions on the management committee over the years; recognises that when his playing days for Paisley were over, it was in his role as a junior rugby coach in which he had the biggest impact on people's lives; understands that he helped to produce some of Paisley's best players including his own son David; acknowledges that whether it was in his role as player, coach, bar convener, referee, or simply David's dad, Malcolm was seen as Mr Paisley Rugby Club and leaves behind a legacy that will be felt for many years to come; appreciates that before the home game on Saturday 30 October Paisley players, old and new, linked arms on the sideline to honour Malcolm with a minute's silence followed by applause; further notes that Malcolm's funeral service will be held on Friday 5 November at Woodside Crematorium; and sends its very best wishes to his wife Kathy, his son David, daughter Gillian and all his grandchildren at this sad time.

That this House welcomes the 100th anniversary of the Paisley Comrades branch of the Royal British Legion; recognises its founding in May 1919 by nine survivors of World War One meeting in Paisley, growing by June of that year to a branch of over 100 members; notes that the Paisley Comrades branch pre-dates even the Royal British Legion itself; welcomes the support, help, and companionship provided by the Comrades to former service personnel over the past century; and wishes the Comrades well in their next 100 years of supporting Renfrewshire's ex-service men and women.

The petition of residents of Glasgow North,
Declares that the Government-backed Green Deal Scheme has adversely affected residents of Glasgow North both financially and psychologically; further that many residents have, in good faith, invested their life saving or accrued several thousands of pounds of debt to pay for work...

Green Deal Scheme
Apology accepted, Madam Deputy Speaker. I was pleased to hear your comments on that very important issue.
Nearly 300 households in my constituency have been affected by the utterly shameful mis-selling by Robert Skillen’s company, Home Energy and Lifestyle Management Systems—or HELMS, as it is better known—all carried out...

To celebrate Paisley winning the competition to be UK City of Culture in 2021, as I have no doubt that it will, the Royal National Mòd, the fantastic festival of Scottish Gaelic culture, will again be held in the town in 2021 after we successfully held the event in 2014....

I support all the bids as they reach the final stages. In two weeks’ time they will be submitted to the panel, which is chaired by
Phil Redmond, and I am watching the process closely. I look forward to making an announcement on the successful city at the end of the year.

Scottish politics can be rather tribal, but yesterday Scottish politics united in support of Paisley’s bid to become the UK City of Culture in 2021. Paisley’s bid is now Scotland’s bid. The final stage of the competition is looming, and a win for Paisley would create a bigger legacy than a win for anywhere else. Will the Minister join us in supporting Paisley 2021?
