That this House celebrates the achievement of Merched y Môr, the first female crew from Wales to take part and complete The World’s Toughest Row; congratulates Denise Leonard, Helen Heaton, Heledd Williams and Liz Collyer, a team from Pembrokeshire for rowing 3,000 miles across the Atlantic from San Sebastián de La Gomera to Antigua; applauds them on their incredible feat of completing the crossing by rowing in two-hour shifts, 24 hours a day; celebrates their finishing time of 50 days, 14 hours and 43 minutes; thanks them for raising money for various charities including Sea Trust, RNLI, Action For Children a Popham Kidney Support; and wishes them the best of luck in any future races.

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what discussions she has had with British Rowing on ensuring the safety of British athletes.
The safety, wellbeing and welfare of everyone taking part in sport is absolutely paramount. National Governing Bodies (NGBs) are responsible for the regulation of their sports and for ensuring that appropriate measures are in place to protect participants from harm.
The Government is aware of the deeply concerning recent media reports in relation to rowing. We have not spoken directly to British Rowing, but have raised this with UK Sport and Sport England, who are both monitoring the situation. UK Sport has also confirmed they are in contact with British Rowing and encourage any member of staff or athlete on Olympic and Paralympic performance programmes to report allegations of unacceptable behaviour to Sport Integrity, their confidential reporting line.

That this House congratulates teenagers Sam Roxburgh and Shay Hammock on their success in being called up to represent Scotland at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta at Nottingham this month; recognises that the pair, both of Inverness Rowing Club, have been selected to represent their country in singles competitions in their respective age groups against top junior rowers from across Great Britain; further recognises that this is the first time Scotland will be represented at this event; and wishes them every success for the competition, and in their future rowing careers.

That this House welcomes the grand reopening of the West Boathouse on Glasgow Green on Sunday, May 14; acknowledges that the boathouse acts as a central base for three Glasgow rowing clubs, Clyde Amateur Rowing Club, Clydesdale Amateur Rowing Club, and Strathclyde University Boat Club; notes that the reopening event, Up the Watter, was attended by more than 250 people and included a ceremony where a specially commissioned flag was carried on boat down the River Clyde where it was raised, as well as an afternoon of crafting activities, tours, rowing demonstrations and music; recognises that since its initial opening in 1905, the West Boathouse has played a central role in Glasgow's sporting and community life; congratulates ARPL Architects and Glasgow Building Preservation Trust on their successful restoration and futureproofing of the building, which has included improvements in accessibility, flexible multi-use spaces, and a bespoke pontoon for easier access to the river; appreciates the contributions of all of the building's funders, including the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic Environment Scotland, the Robertson Trust, Glasgow City Council and the William Grant Foundation; and wishes all involved the best in all future endeavours.

That this House congratulates Ian Baird, Duncan Hughes, Ross McKinney, Fraser Potter and Clive Rooney of North Berwick Coastal Rowing Club, known as Five in a Row, for finishing in third place in the 2021 Talisker Atlantic Challenge; understands that the five men completed the 3000 mile journey from La Gomera in Spain to Antigua in the Caribbean in 36 days, 3 hours and 33 minutes, each taking turns to have two hours of sleep; notes that the group finished third out of thirty six boats, and describe the journey as the hardest thing they have ever done, as falling from the boat would have been fatal as the craft could not be turned around fast enough to find a crew member in the darkness; commends the fundraising efforts that the group made to get them to the starting line, with additional funds raised to be given to the charity Reverse Rett; and wishes the group the best of luck in their futures.
