That this House congratulates Ionad an Stòir (The Storr Centre) on Skye on an outstanding first year of operation; notes that since opening in July 2024 the award-winning visitor centre at the Old Man of Storr has welcomed over 293,000 visitors, a 43 per cent rise compared to 2022; further notes that income from parking fees and sales has generated a surplus of £450,296, which is being reinvested in local infrastructure and services across Skye and Raasay; commends the creation of six new jobs and the support of over 20 local suppliers, alongside the sale of over 150 Highland-made products; welcomes the investment of £282,000 into road improvements at other visitor hotspots including the Fairy Pools, Neist Point and Coral Beach; further welcomes the awards the centre has received for its commitment to quality and sustainability; and recognises Ionad an Stòir as a landmark example of sustainable, community-led tourism which can serve as a model for rural development across the Highlands and beyond.

That this House warmly welcomes the commencement of construction work on the £8 million Ionad Thròndairnis (Trotternish Centre) at Flodigarry on the Isle of Skye; notes that this ambitious Gaelic language and culture hub will include a function hall, classrooms for heritage and language learning, a library and digital archive, café, restaurant, and onsite accommodation to help address the chronic shortage of beds in the region; further notes that the project is expected to provide around ten full-time jobs as well as part-time and seasonal opportunities, delivering a vital economic boost to one of Scotland’s most deprived rural areas in terms of income, employment and access to services; recognises the continued vibrancy of Gaelic as a community language in Trotternish, where intergenerational Gaelic-medium education is supported and celebrated; commends the leadership and determination of the Trotternish Trust and local residents in bringing this transformative project to fruition; acknowledges the support of Bòrd na Gàidhlig, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Community Land Scotland; and celebrates the centre’s future role in safeguarding linguistic and cultural heritage while strengthening community resilience across north Skye.

That this house warmly congratulates 9-year-old Kilmuir schoolboy Calum Alasdair Munro on designing the first-ever official flag for the Isle of Skye which was unfurled at the Nicolson Memorial earlier this month; commends the first class design, which draws on Calum’s love of flags and interest in the island’s history and heritage, and cleverly reflects the five areas of Trotternish, Waternish, Duirinish, Minginish and Sleat/Strath as well as local clan colours; recognises the tremendous achievement of this youngster in a contest which drew many entries; and applauds contest organisers The West Highland Free Press for developing the idea to raise funds for Skye and Lochalsh Young Carers.
