To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, on what occasions the current British High Commissioner to Kenya has met representatives of (a) Unilever, (b) PG Tips, (c) Finlays and (d) Williamson Tea.
The current UK High Commissioner regularly meets with British businesses in Kenya, individually, in small groups or as part of wider events. There are an estimated 150 British enterprises in Kenya and over 250,000 Kenyans are directly employed by British organisations. She last met representatives from Finlays, Williamson Tea and Unilever (which in Kenya includes PG Tips) in May 2021, during an International Tea Event she hosted at her residence.

The Hygiene, Handwashing and Behaviour Change Coalition for COVID-19 response was formed in March 2020 at the onset of the pandemic. The programme exceeded design expectations, reaching over 1.2 billion people in 37 countries with handwashing messaging, distributing over 78 million hygiene products, and training over 140,000 people, primarily healthcare workers. In December 2021, the Secretary of State for Foreign Commonwealth and Development Affairs announced a new package of international action against the Omicron variant. This includes extending the coalition for promoting COVID-specific hygiene behaviours. Encouraging vaccine uptake is planned for the extended programme.
Evidence and knowledge about the transmission of the COVID-19 virus continues to evolve rapidly, including with the rise of new variants. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) advice based on the latest evidence remains that, alongside other protective measures such as mask wearing and social distancing, hand washing is an important public health intervention that helps curb COVID-19 transmission. This is especially the case in the absence of vaccines and boosters. The London School for Hygiene and Tropical Medicine continues to provide advice across the consortium on overall priorities and the detail of hygiene messaging in the context of the best available evidence on efficacy and value for money.

Through the UK Government's partnership with Unilever, the Hygiene, Handwashing and Behaviour Change Coalition for COVID-19, the UK Government has now allocated over £26 million to provide urgent COVID-19 hygiene support to some of the world's most vulnerable people.
Large UK-based charities (organisations with an average annual income of over £10 million for the last three years) have been allocated £11 million of this overall total. Delivery partners were selected through open competition. The remaining £15 million has been disbursed through non-UK-based not-for-profit organisations and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

As at July 2020, the Department for International Development has disbursed £15,958,394 through the Hygiene, Handwashing & Behaviour Change Coalition for COVID-19 Response.
This relates to 14 contracts and Memoranda of Understandings with implementing partners, with a total value of £34,806,976.
Additional contracts are currently being negotiated.

I have received numerous representation from the Hon. Member for Norfolk North regarding the future of manufacturing operations on the Unilever site in Norwich.
On 3 May I met the Chief Executive of New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership to discuss this issue. The Department has also been made aware of a potential application under the Rural Development Programme’s Growth Programme for funding to help set up a manufacturing and milling facility in Greater Norwich. However, an application has not so far been received.
