The Government are committed to tackling the threat of serious and organised crime. In 2013 we launched a comprehensive new strategy and a powerful new crime-fighting organisation—the National Crime Agency—which are already making a difference. We continue to strengthen our response through the Serious Crime Act 2015, the Modern Slavery Bill and strategy, and the anti-corruption plan. We have also forged new collaborative relationships with the private sector to tackle money laundering and to combat online child sexual exploitation.

There’s huge potential in British Horticulture.

We’re seeing exciting innovation. For example the strawberries season has been extended to 9 months of the year and due to new growing technologies we’ve seen the highest crop of cherries ever.

Two weeks ago I held a roundtable with leading figures in the sector to discuss what more we can do to help them grow.

We have made good progress and cleaned up more than 10,000 miles of our rivers. Pollution from sewage has gone down significantly. During this Parliament, phosphate pollution will fall by a fifth and ammonia by a sixth. This shows that a healthy environment goes hand in hand with a healthy economy.

There are over 6,000 more nurses on our hospital wards since May 2010.

The UK has committed 700 million pounds in response to the Syria crisis, which is providing food, medical care and relief items to some of those most affected – including children. At the UN in September I announced a further 50 million pounds of funding specifically for the No Lost Generation Initiative. These funds will provide education, psycho-social support, and protection for Syrian children within Syria and in neighbouring countries.

The Home Office does not comment on individual cases.

Our £1 billion business rates support package includes a £1,000 discount for smaller shops, pubs and restaurants. That will benefit more than 300,000 premises in England, including 430 in Cherwell and 580 in Dover. We are also doubling small business rate relief for a further year, which will benefit about 575,000 businesses, with 385,000 businesses paying no rates at all. That will help 1,100 small businesses in Cherwell, and 1,300 small businesses in Dover.

£42.5 million has been committed by DFID for support to refugees in the region through UN agencies including UNHCR, UNICEF and WFP. DFID offices in the neighbouring countries of Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda are working closely to monitor the situation and provide guidance for future humanitarian support.

A fortnight ago, I visited Sierra Leone to see how Britain is helping that country battle Ebola and the part we are playing. Today, the first of six new UK Ebola treatment facilities opens to patients in Kerry Town. Last month, I attended the World Bank annual meetings in Washington, where the UK hosted several successful economic development events. I met UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and World Bank president Jim Yong Kim to discuss the post-2015 development goals and the global response to the Ebola crisis. On Monday, I made a speech to the Family Planning 2020 event, where I set out how commitments we made at the London summit on family planning two years ago are delivering real progress.

I returned from South Sudan early this morning and have seen that the humanitarian situation there remains precarious: 1.8 million people have been displaced by the conflict, 1.3 million of them within the country. Although aid has helped to ameliorate the food security situation in some areas, there is still a high risk of famine in early 2015.
