Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Barbara Roche (Labour), on Thursday, 25 November 1993, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 78 members in total.

INTELLIGENCE SERVICES

That this House welcomes the fact that MI6 and GCHQ will be put on a statutory basis but is not convinced that wheeling out Sir Colin McColl at a press conference to confirm that he uses green ink in honour of MI6's eccentric founder constitutes a long overdue opening up of the security services, nor does it believe that a committee of six honourable Members and peers hand-picked by the Prime Minister to examine MI6, MI5 and GCHQ as announced in the Intelligence Services Bill [Lords] will provide the proper independent accountability of security services that all Britain's close allies have; and urges the Government to ensure that the security services are accountable to a Select Committee and through it to this House and to the people who pay for them.
