RELIGION IN PAKISTAN

That this House believes the vast majority of constituents of honourable Members who originate from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan condemn without reservation religious hatred and religious intolerance wherever and however it occurs in Pakistan; trusts those responsible for sectarian atrocities, including murder, arson and bomb attacks, involving those of different religious faiths or believers of the same faith, are brought to justice without delay; urges honourable Members to exert whatever influence they may have upon political parties in Pakistan to support any legislation brought before pakistan's National Assembly by the Government to repeal or reform the blasphemy laws introduced under martial law; urges the Pakistani community in the United Kingdom, which makes a major economic, social and political contribution to the country, to remain calm and to reject whatever efforts are made to stir religious hatred in the United Kingdom, confident that all citizens of the United Kingdom may call upon the Police for protection and to apprehend those perpetrating criminal acts; and urges Her Majesty's Government to assist the Government of Pakistan in every way to combat crime and violence and to make clear that those who engage in preaching religious hatred are unwelcome in the United Kingdom.
