Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Angela Watkinson (Conservative), on Tuesday, 23 November 2004, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 67 members in total.

ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION

That this House believes that access to higher education should be based on merit; notes with concern that many able pupils with excellent examination results are being denied access to university places for social rather than academic reasons; and calls on the Government to ensure that efforts to improve opportunities for young people from poorer backgrounds are not carried out at the expense of those who have earned places on merit.
