EARLY BILLINGS AND HIGH PROFITS

That this House deplores the practice by privatised utilities like water and electricity of billing customers up to five weeks in advance; recognises that many customers, especially senior citizens, are induced to pay bills weeks before they have to; notes this contributes to the profits last year of ??1.6 billion by the regional electricity companies and ??1.6 billion profits by the water companies; recognises that sending bills early is open to abuse; and calls on the Government to bring in legislation to control early billing.
