Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Robert Parry (Labour), on Wednesday, 18 January 1995, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 4 members in total.

SEMINAR AT SOAS

That this House is concerned at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's sponsorship of the seminar being held at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London between 17th and 18th January; notes that the Iranian and British Charge d'Affaires will be speaking at the above-mentioned seminar and that several academics from Iran will also be participating; believes that such sponsorship is highly inappropriate while the Government of Iran continues to commit gross human rights violations, including the persecution of Iranian religious minorities, the subjection of women, the assassination of opponents abroad and support for terrorism including maintaining the fatwa; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to refuse sponsorship for any such seminars involving the present Iranian regime.
