FARMING OF FUR BEARING ANIMALS

That this House agrees with the Chairman of the Farm Animal Council when he described the farming of fur bearing animals as inappropriate and that it would be very difficult to design suitable accommodation that could possibly be economic; further feels that current welfare provision for fur bearing animals is totally inadequate; and that the existing licensing system, which only applies to mink, has failed to prevent these animals escaping into the countryside; and calls upon the Government to list mink and Arctic fox under the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 1976.
