Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Joan Walley (Labour), on Wednesday, 17 July 1996, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 33 members in total.
GLOBAL WARMING
That this House notes the recent report published by the Department of the Environment entitled, Review of the Potential Effects of Climate Change in the UK, which concludes that there is mounting evidence that global climate is changing as a result of human activity; calls upon the Government to inquire as to what further measures should be taken both in the transport sector and in the industrial sector both up to the year 2000 and in the following 25 years in order to reduce their impacts upon climate change; and further calls on the Government to ensure that all Departments of State and Select Committees of this House collaborate, setting up joint initiatives where necessary and cross departmental co-operation to agree measures and their implementation to reduce road traffic and energy wastage and to promote energy efficiency in all sectors in order to reduce global warming and its impact on climate changes.

- leave out from `activity' to end and add `notes that climate changes are a natural phenomenon well documented long before industrialisation began and that current scare stories are based on dubious evidence and fuelled by self-publicity from more vocal members of the scientific community; and further notes that if lucrative Government research grants were not available such individuals would find no impetus for their irresponsible statements and they would stop trying to frighten the life out of people.'.
