Early day motion tabled by primary sponsor Mike Hall (Labour), on Tuesday, 14 May 1996, in the House of Commons. It is signed by 48 members in total.

ALUMINIUM CAN RECYCLING ASSOCIATION

That this House congratulates the Aluminium Can Recycling Association (ACRA) in their efforts to promote environmental awareness and recycling of used aluminium drinks cans in the United Kingdom; applauds the fact that since ACRA was formed in 1989 aluminium can recycling rates have risen from two per cent. to 28 per cent. at the end of 1995 with 1.9 billion aluminium cans weighing 30,260 tonnes being recycled last year which is almost double the European Union minimum achievement target and therefore makes the aluminium drinks can the most recycled post-consumer packaging in the United Kingdom; recognises that millions of aluminium drinks cans are recycled every day at the high-tech dedicated aluminium can recycling plantin Warrington, providing jobs in the locality; notes that ifevery used aluminium drinks can was recycled then over ??40 million would be available to charities, fund-raisers and individuals and with nearly 700 'cash for cans' sites in the UK, it is becoming increasingly easy for recyclersto find a convenient aluminium can recycling point; and therefore looks forward to even more aluminium drinks cans being recycled in the coming year.
